Does anyone live near Irvine?

I am looking to buy some (fairly expensive) parts from a seller based in Irvine but that is over 300 miles away for me. I just need somebody to:
A) Check the seller actually has the items they are trying to sell.
B) Check the items are in a decent condition and the pics I have been sent are not just stock/stolen off the internet.
I am happy to collect the parts myself and don't need anyone to get involved in the transaction but before booking a day off work and hiring a van/spending a couple of £100 on diesel/hire I want to make sure all is as is should be.
Call me over-cautious but these days there seems to be more and more scams online and I don't want to waste my time/money trying to collect non-existent or broken parts.
Happy to throw some beer tokens your way if you can help.

Great - I will see if the seller is as forthcoming now I have actually asked to see the parts in the flesh. 99% of me says it is a scam but I have't yet worked out how. The guy is selling an engine and trans for a very good rate, too cheap if you ask me. The story is it was his uncles who died and he is clearing the house. He sent me pics when asked for, his home address and when I said I would pick it up in person before handing over any cash he said "fine - what day?". It must be a scam but I just don't know how yet. I would say the engine and parts are at least 3k under priced. If something sounds too good to be true then it almost certainly is.As I said though - if it checks out I am more than happy to provide enough beer tokens for a decent night out for those who helped.
Lets see if I have any response form the seller tomorrow.

If you wish PM me his name i might know him and be able to confirm if i have came across him in the TVR circles in the last 5 years-6 years. I think i have came across most owners in Ayrshire now.
Cheers Scotty - your Cerbera is looking good. Hopefully the seller will surface today - he was very chatty yesterday and was fine to hand out his address and agree for payment on collection but since I have mentioned somebody just having a quick look to confirm all is as it should be, nothing. I think my gut instinct could be right here...it was just too good a deal.
I don't think the seller is a TVR man - it is not a TVR engine but one for a project I am looking at.

Cheers ,still getting there with it 2 years on, I have the engine and box all over the garage floor just now fitting loads of new bits. Still have a way to go with it to ha ha.
Decided to keep the bonnet as it does stand out as my car it has grown on me so just going to keep it.

After I asked to see the parts before arranging collection the seller has gone to ground. A couple of days of trying to contact him and nothing. Ah well, at least I didn't lose anything.

Not quite the end of this story - the seller got back to me today after I asked to send somebody around to view the items before I hire a van and come to collect, his response "Great Tim, Let me know when he will come".
I just can't figure this out. I was convinced it was a scam but how does it work?

I can see why you are thinking it's dodgy but if he's wiling to have the items inspected first by you or someone else, sounds better. Maybe he was just away from his email for a couple of days.
Or the items are dodgy/stolen but then you are double guessing yourself! Only way to find out is go and check them out!
