996 low beam high beam problem

Hi
My drivers side low beam light recently has started to sometimes be on and other times not. If I turn lights off and back on sometimes it comes to life. High beam is working normally.

What could be causing this?

What kind of lights?

If it's a 996 the main beam and dipped beam bulbs are separate. It could be that you have a faulty dipped beam bulb. I think it's an H7. A new bulb would be a good start.

Are they xenons?

Could be a faulty ballast if so.

They look different. They are projector type lights. Look for Litronic GT2 on eBay and you'll see.

I expect they are Litronics. Swap the ballasts or the bulbs and see whether the fault moves.

Look at the options listed beside the VIN sticker in either your handbook or under the front lid.

According to my brief research if you have M601 your dip beams are xenons.

Another less scientific method - look for dire warnings of certain death on the back of the units- these are usually xenons.

Then it's just the process of elimination described above.

You will have headlight washers that pop up if you have litronics. Probably the easiest way to tell

I had exactly the same thing on my 03 996, RH headlight and indicator was temperamental, flickering on and off. I took the light unit Out, cleaned the electrical connector and closed the teeth in the plug and it's perfect now.

The dashboard light switch on the 996 is notorious for failing as well so check that.
