Just for fun. You can have one brand new car - lets say a nominal £30k budget to allow for something a little bit interesting and your other car can't cost more than £1000. What would you go for?

The sensible money would be on a diesel for the new one (cheap running costs and any potentially expensive faults covered by a warranty) but life's a bit too short isn't it?

I would probably go for a BMW 135i (for the engine) or a well-specced Golf GTI (probably a better all-round package) if someone else was paying, although if it was my own money the new Skoda Octavia is a nice looking car and if history is anything to go by, the vRS version will be a performance bargain.

Although there are some nice old barges available for under £1k, I would be tempted by a convertible. A Saab 9-3 would probably be a fairly sensible choice but I might be tempted to take a gamble on an MGF VVC!

What would your 2 cars be?

750i is no more comfortable than a 740i but likely a whole lot more dodgy at a grand.

You want to spend a grand on an E38 750?? Good luck with that!

£1k shed: MX-5 - fun
£30k new: BMW 320D - all you'll ever really need for everything else.

Does it have to be new? I paid less than 30k and currently have a Lotus Esprit Turbo, 911 Carrera, TVR Chimaera and for the week a Honda CRV Sport.

Nothing this side of 30k will make me trade them in, I would ideally like an Aston Martin DB9 V12 Manual/ Ferrari F355 and maybe something like a Mazda CX-7 as a daily- this would be closer to 40k though and none new (obviously)

Initially I thought this would be easy, but 30k really doesn't get you anything exciting when new. Gt86 is the only answer.

The 1k part is easy, mr2.
