Great to have him writing on the BBC and for us to get an insight into a WDC front runner's life, but was it just me who thinks he is using this first article primarily as a forum to get people to dislike him a little less?

Bit of a PR campaign?

Great driver and wish him the best of luck in the new season, but I'll be rooting for Button and Webber!

Total PR.

When he hit the scene he was a breathe of fresh air, here we had some real raw talent. He had a huge following. Since then it has tailed off. For me it was various things.... Liegate in Australia a couple of years back.... the whole Brand Hamilton thing..... and quite frankly not being focused enough.

Hopefully with a new challenge he will now turn things around.

Time will tell.

I don't think people dislike him outside of this board where it is fashionable to hate everything about motorsport.

I quite like the column. Some of the things he addresses, it's as if he reads the things said on here about him hehe

I agree, shame that he thinks he needs to justify himself to some people that may have different tastes in the way the dress and music they may listen to. Cant remember Schumacher or other drivers feeling like they needed to justify or apologise about which celebrities maybe visiting them in the paddock.

Good column but i don't think he has anything to apologise for or explain things to. I would however like to know what did happen to his car in Brazil 2007??? Also what he thought about some of the penalties he recieved early in his F1 career. Mclaren i am assuming held him back from speaking his mind.

"I was real swagged out" - quote Lewis Hamilton.

Well that's given me an insight into the world of Formula One.

Lewis Hamilton writing, Dont be daft. XIX Management are writing the whole thing and I doubt he has any real idea of what is written other than the initial thread. These guys dont have time to write much or read during the season....

It won't have been written by anyone in his camp - It will have been ghost written by Andrew Benson, who would have asked the questions, taken the answers and written them into the first person.

I read it this morning and thought it was a bit cringey and desperate 'pleeeeeeease like me'.

He seems to be a nice chap and I think he needs to stop worrying about what the press say. You can't please all the people all the time and he has a good following, he shouldn't worry about the 'haterz'.

Easy for me to say perhaps I have no experience of what its like to live in a media bubble as he does.

FFS people! Give the guy a break!!! The poor lad is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't, there are some on here that don't belive a word he say, and wouldn't belive he wrote that column even if he sat infront of you writing it himself! You're so frikin blinkered its unbelievable! What would you rather have, a boring racer that just gets in the car, drives and goes home without doing any interviews and doesn't have a personality! Christ sake people, we are in a golden age of British talent and all some can do it's bh and moan about them!! What the hell!!! I wish some people would jus accept the drivers their personalities for who they are and get behind them, before its too late, and the same people will be moaning that there's no British talent on the grid!

Go hammy!
Go jenson!
Go Paul!

It'll be interesting to see if Hamilton puts any decent content in his BBC blog column. I'd be interested in how his non-race weekend days are filled, how much time in the simulator, how much time out training etc. Of course for context, that's "interested" against a background of dull work for me hehe

Even if he didn't personally write it (I doubt it), it does sound like him though, especially the comment above with the tone of, "pleeeeeease like me!"- not very gangsta at all! hehe

I can generally get where he's coming from. He was brought up with that kind of 'hip-hop culture' and whatever. But he sounds too 'English' for that, the man is a real contradiction. I laughed at the 'real swagged out' comment too. hehe

It says 'Lewis Hamitlton was talking to Andrew Benson' at the bottom, which is a give away really!

No one is criticising him for it. It ensures that the editor gets the content they want, guarutteed to be written in decent (fully journalistically legal) copy and requiring minimum editorial input.

It is completely standard journalistic practice. It is how Webber, DC and Anderson do their columns, it is how pretty much EVERY celebrity autobiography is written.
