450SE for sale on PH
Discussion
Much as I would love to buy a well sorted 450SE, for the amount he is asking we are talking Tuscan money. I know its not the same, but the Tuscan is a more modern car with a far superior performance. I used to own a 450SE and they are nice, but for me its got to be the Tuscan, unless I feel I am getting value for money from a 450. The search goes on.

It seems 'Gandalf' is so sure that his 450 is worth 12k that he hasn't even bothered to put pictures up for all to see and judge for themselves. I hope he is right of course for his sake. From the description in the advert, it mentions modifications, and this makes me a little uncomfortable. The next TVR I buy, whatever it may be, must be standard with NO modifications as I have learned that this is what classic car ownership is all about.

You guys truly amaze me!
Someone puts their car up for sale and the first thing you do is to talk the price down.
Its worth what someone is willing to pay for a classic well sorted car.
Have you seen the car to say "Its not worth that"
Have you any idea of whats been spent on it?
Are you aware of the provenance of the car?
TVR's are a lifestyle car - sure you can get lots of other classic cars with character but with a TVR you get real CHARACTER.
Having owned one and rebuilt it to what I wanted, been to BBWF and ENJOYED it I sold it to move on to the next project.
TVR's are worth much more than they are being sold for - just look through the classifieds at some other TVR's.
The wedges are a classic - not to all tastes but a real bargain in the "bang for your buck".
When you're out on the road - how many other TVR's do you see? Bet its the square root of f
k all!
I bought a TVR 400 SE because I wanted one for many years. I sold it because due to a back injury I couldn't get comfortable in it. Would I have another wedge if my back was fixed - yes!
Would I buy the best I could find - yes
These cars are classics for many reasons - self destruction, fun, cost of running, fun, frustration and fun to own.
Don't talk the value of these cars down - there have been many wedges rebuilt better than new then sold because the enjoyment was in the rebuild and satisfaction then starting on the next project.
These cars are worth real money - don't talk the values down.....
I'm not on commission, just want to see a top British Marque keep some value.

I completly agree with you, I like most wedge owners would love for Steve to get his asking price.
But the market just doesn't agree.
We all think our cars are Classics but the market has yet to agree!
Unless it's a SEAC then it will!
But if the car goes for £12k then great as mine will also go for the same and I only paid £8k for mine in August that's a great £4k profit (Should I sell, but I will not)
Andy
Blaines 400se as been sold twice for 10k recently...I dont know this car but agree, a decent set of current pics wouldnt go a miss...if not then its probably a half hearted attempt too test the market with people who know the car...but I wish the guy luck and its more than likely worth every penny of the 12k...cheers guys
Andy
The 450SE you bought from the North East needed quite a bit of work on it to bring it back to A1 condition.
The market will never agree when the owners are talking the price down "its not worth that" "SEAC's are worth £xxxx.xx just because..."
Blaines car was a complete nut and bolt rebuild and was better than new - so why value it less?
It was well documented on this site.
Arguing about the value of one car was a chunk of the reason I stopped posting on the wedge site - from what I can see alot of the "Old guard" have stopped getting involved as well..
Good luck to you chaps and us old f
kers will just keep staring into our pints dreaming of days gone by...

I have a couple of full nut and bolt rebuilds, but with one differances to as near original factory condition as I could. So in my opinon worth more!
But any car is only worth what somebody will pay for it!
In fact that is the problem, people think there cars are worth X but the market and other people think thay are not, hence the problem!
Enjoy your pint!
Andy
I agree with Wynn, this is probably one of the best Wedges available. It looks fantastic, and I'm pretty sure knowing Steve he has done some sensible upgrades to make it even better than the car he bought a few years ago.
I for one would buy this car tomorrow if I win the lottery, unless he wants to swap for a TT and £3 a week for several years

Steve kindly sent me some photos of the car earlier in the week. All I can say is I think it is stunning. I like originality but I love the engine bay of Steves car. I guess it up to the owner which way they go.
What amazes me is the price of our chosen cars. As the guys have been saying a car is worth what someone will pay for it. I recently sold a 13 year old Pinto engined Westfield for £6250. Now don't get me wrong it was a lovely car and I probably sold it a little low due to the time of year. But there is no way that car was worth the sum of its parts! You compare that to my 350i that I paid 4k ish for with a nice plate. I just can't work it out, our cars should be worth a small fortune?
I guess its been said many times the cars got some bad press over the years and this may have stopped newbies buying them. It certainly held me back for a few years. But now I have one (maybe 2 tomorrow) I wish I'd dived in years ago. Brilliant cars as Andy said Fun and Character all roled into one.
I like all TVR's and always have. But ts the Wedge I always wanted most. I can now understand why lots of you all have more than one. My mate has even got hooked by the drug he's off to see one in the morning.
