Just been reading about the new clio sport on here and I had a thought about when me and the OH went into Arnold Clark to go look at what is now the old clio sport. Went for a test drive and was very impressed - wasn't planning on buying (naughty I know I'm sorry) or buying anytime soon. Well we sat down and I thought well atleast it'll be nice to know what my car part ex is worth. 5 mins in we were nodding our heads and then he got up and said I'll be back in a second. Next out comes the big boss who sits down, haves a chat and says let me work some numbers. Within 2 minutes he went from 7000 part ex to 10000 part ex plus 3500 cash on a 14500 car! (It was a 60 plate so was about 4 month old with 12k on clock) I didn't even say a word or try to barter! We actually very nearly bought it but we thought strategically about fuel costs at the time and it's paid off not buying it..
Anyone else had this bizarre occasion?

Yes.

We went looking for a big saloon in 2009 and ended up in the Ford dealer looking at Mondeos though having no beliefe we could afford one as the Titanium one on the floor was marked up at 23k. We wern't really sure what we woud be able to afford, if anything.

We spoke to a very efficient female saleswoman who indicated they had a number of Mondeos they were discounting, all brand new and gave us a choice of 3 colours and two trim levels. She went and looked at our Mazda 5 and came back in and said she'd get a PX price. i mentioned my 400 old Mondeo as the car scrappage scheme was on too. Within half an hour, we had an offer of a new Mondeo 2.0 Edge for 12k, 5.5k for the Mazda 5 in PX, 2k for the old Mondeo as scrappage and a 2 year low finance deal on the remaining balance that was beans.

Needless to say, we bit her hand off and the Mondeo has proved an excellent car and even at 4 years old shows no signs of needing replacement.

Sounds like a bargain! Although fords are expensive to begin with. I think mine retailed st 20k but bought it for 11k 3 months old with 7k on clock!
