What should the oil pressure be at idling and mid range??

TVRCC member? TVRCC website sell 'em £30 I think - by Steve Heath (ShPub on PH) hereon known as 'the bible'. For lookies, see TVR Books
2nd hand copies of these can be found on Ebay for twice the new price
Mine (4.0HC) shows oil pressure at the mid-mark (assume 45psi) running, and I think a little less on tickover, but not much.

Did a search of Parkers and found this re-Different Insurance categories (can't guarantee accuracy):
"Hi , just to let u know that a Cat D write off simply means that the insurance company felt it more worthwhile to pay out the cost of the claim to the insured and they then keep the car , as opposed to paying for a repairer to get it fixed. Most insurance companys make this decision if the cost of repairs would be more than 60% of the cost of car. It doesnt mean that there was actually much wrong with it mechanicaly or structually and as you have been driving around for 4 years with no probs that probably backs that fact up. For info, Cat A and B write offs should be dismantled or scrapped, Cat C can be "iffy" and Cat D is simply the 60% rule made by Insurance companys. Hope this helps."
The Rover V8 engine in TVR guise can require a re-build after 15K when thrashed from cold or 100/200+K when "used" with compassion - thrashed when warm !! Employ an "expert" and not your Heart, when viewing !!

Thanks.
What does 'insurance cat 'd'' mean. Was it a little bump or a wallop?
Do chims need an engine re-build after 50k - 70k?

Not if you treat them with some respect. I know a V8S owner who has just passed the 150k mark with no major overhauls. Regular correct servicing;no abuse as Trev says and IMHO regular oil changes. I use Magnetec myself in the hope that cold start wear will be minimised with some oil on the rockers. In my experience the V8 is bullet proof and the main problems are electrical especially with the older Chims and the perhaps not so good Lucas system with its susceptability to damp. I keep mine in a garage with a dehydrator.
