Started the gym. Has anybody used The Protein Works before?
Discussion
I'm looking at buying a protein powder.
I've seen Myprotein's offer, £32 for 2.25kg but then I would need to buy a blender bottle and pay delivery which bumps the price up a bit, probably £40.
TPW works out £42 for 2kg with a free blender bottle and also 250g of a different flavoured protein powder, which sounds quite good.
If anybody has used TPW before do they have a referral code?

I have and cant really fault them,
I went for the Raze (pre-workout supplement) and apart from the taking the piss smallest of small scoops (if youve got fat fingers, itll be like sherbet dips), it seems to work though i dont go full strength.
My flat mate went for the all in one protein and says it tastes nice though hes not exactly mr.fitness so whether it actually works is another matter.
Only referal code i can find is if you input;
jk5984 into the referral bit, i get £5 placed into my account for future use

Received my protein today. I paid £4 to have it delivered next day by DPD otherwise it would have been Yodel 3-5 days at £1.99 or Yodel next day at £2.99.
I don't like hearing about Yodel so went with DPD
Strawberry and cream tastes good! Got a 250g free bag of Cherry Bakewell whey too so will be trying that.
If anybody wants a referral code if they ever buy from them mine is CH7736.
If you use that you get a free 250g bag of whey which is great in my eyes.
3kg for £42. Happy customer.

I've just been looking at their 'mass builder' package.
Fifty notes for :
2kg mass builder (protein and carbs)
Creatine (creapure)
Preworkout bcaas/caffeine/vits (raze)
Bag of oats
Zinc/magnesium tablets (ZMA)
Mixer bottle.
Apparently enough for a month...
I've been training for 6 weeks, and found that it's become part of my weekly routine, which I was originally worried about. Not been taking any supplements as I wanted to sort my diet out and wasn't sure if it was worth it if I just gave up after a few weeks. One thing I do notice is severe DOMS, and lack of energy. Gains have been decent, but want them to continue after the 'quick wins' that come with just doing training provide...
Do people think it's worth going for a complete pack like this?

Got to question how much it costs seperately and how much are the ingredients from a different site?Fifty notes for :

With only having been working out 6 weeks I think DOMS is something to be expected due to only being relatively new and exercising.
I'm only getting back into going the gym but in the past i've felt sore for upto 3 days after working out. All depends on how heavy you went that session/ if the exercise you were doing was new to you/ if the routine was new, so DOMS is pretty common.
I'm guessing somebody will be able to answer if the above package will help in recovery time since I've always just used protein powder and sometimes creatine.
Feel free to use my code if you do get it
You'll get a 250g bag of whey. I chose Cherry Bakewell flavour but i've read that the apple and cinnamon is quite nice too. They have jaffa cake flavour too but I don't think it is available in the 250g.Edited by BlackST on Tuesday 19th March 14:52

Id suggest sorting out your training and diet plan first before resorting to supplements. You never know, you may not need anything/get sucked into marketing hype!Fifty notes for :

Cheers guys.
In terms of training plan, I'm doing a 4 day a week 'You are your own gym' programme, Thurs to Sun. Plus a single heavy compound session on Tuesdays (squat, dead, press). Fully expecting DOMS due to both getting back into training and the intensity of each session.
Diet wise, I'm as happy as I can be. We'll balanced, lots of wholegrain carbs, fibre, fruit and veg. Then as much meat as I can afford (working in Zurich where everything is horrifically expensive) to provide protein.
So suppose I'm at the stage where I either start adding some supplements to support both diet and training, or decide to go fully without.
Thought I might try a balanced package like this one to assess, then potentially pick and choose afterwards. In terms of price it's quite a bit cheaper than buying them separately, and certainly cheaper then I've seen elsewhere for the range, although obviously if I just went for say protein it would workout cheaper...
I don't bloody know, so much conflicting info!

1 - Progressive overload of the muscles. I think periodisation is possibly the most effective. I.e. high weight low reps for say 3 months and then high reps, low weight for 3 months. Focus on the big 3, Squat, deadlift, bench press
2 - Eat enough protein, some people suggest lots of different things, I personally go for 1.5-2g per pound of body weight
3 - Rest
4 - Repeat
No need to over complicate things. People will tell you, don't eat so much protein and such like but ask yourself, how did the big guys get big? The answer isn't by avoiding the big 3 exercises and eating low protein diets although its also worth pointing out, protein shouldn't be used to replace food but to 'supplement' it. Eating good quality protein ranks a lot higher than protein shakes in comparison which is why you add protein supplements to a good diet.
People will also bamboozle you with science, research and other examples but each time, just ask yourself how did the big guys get big and is the person giving advice someone who is/has achieved great size/strength? My rule of thumb is don't take advice from people that either haven't done it themselves are unable to achieve something extraordinary themselves.... I took advice from those who have done it and gained 4 stone of muscle in 3 years which for a natural is pretty good going.
Cheers Ordinary Chap, makes sense.
In that case, definitely need to up my protein. Eating as much as I can, but choice is massively limited from my diet during the working week, so need to find a reliable source of it. Weekends (3 days) I have full control of diet so can adjust appropriately.
I'm definitely stressing my muscles, and based on your advice previously focusing on those 'big 3' lifts. Have seen good improvements in ability already, and want to maintain this progress.
Soreness is a slight issue - walking like John Wayne doesn't go down well in the office. So reading up it seems bcaa intake will sort this. The Swiss do amazing coffee, so that can be my pre workout drink!
Much appreciated, I'm taking records and photos so will update a new thread with my progress once it's worth sharing...

Why is it that people on the internet always assume that anyone who goes down the gym is aiming to get as big as possible and challenge for Mr.Olympia? What happens if Sway is looking to loose weight/slim down or is using the gym to supplement another sport he participates in? What would the point be of say, a combative martial artists that has weight categories going to the gym to get as big as possible when at the weight theyre at, their pretty competitive at?

What is your definition of great size/strength? What happens is a lil guy can lift more than the bigger guy? Which person does/doesnt know what their doing? What if the bigger person cant see their abs, but for example, Sway can and would like to keep it that way without 'bulking' and 'cutting'? Should Sway then listen to them?
What about all the PT's who arent exactly strong/athletically toned yet their customers meet their goals?
Without knowing what Sways goals (either short to long term), itd be hard to advise someone on what training path to take
(yes ive selectively cut bits out of your post as i agree with them, just the bits above id like to discuss thats all, for all i know, you may be a pro-body builder with a rippling 8 pack and have sponsors vying for your endorsements)

To be fair bud, I've posted up a few times asking for advice about gaining some size. Not to Mr Olympia levels by any means, and to support a sport, but size and power are my two main aims at the mo.
Fair enough, i didnt realise as i dont follow you around (unlike you stalking me in the cycling thread), so my apologies to OC on some of my comments. What sport are you looking to supplement it with?
