Why do some 996 turbo owners state their cars are 414bhp and others 420bhp?

Outside of the x50 - which i believe is 450bhp - did the bhp increase in later models or something?

Thanks.

In the handbook it says for the M96/70 Engine Type "Engine output as per EU 309 kW (420 HP)" Then says 2 lines down "Torque as per EU 560 Nm (414 ftlb.)" Might be the reason for the different numbers. The X50 "M96/70E (high-power version)" is shown as 331kW (450 HP) and 620 Nm (459 ftlb.).

Thing is if i look at the ads for 996s - even cars in the same garage have different bhp quoted! Check out sawfat cars on the first page for example!

Also RSJ quote 420bhp.

They are all obviously confused!

As mentioned above 420 metric hp (ps) is equal to 414 mechanical hp. The Porsche handbook/brochure etc quotes hp figures for 996 turbo as DIN (German Industry Standard) in other words metric hp or PS (Pferdestärke). 1 metric hp or PS = 0.986 mechanical horsepower.
