Erm, Email?! and associated 991 foibles.
Discussion
Probably very late to this, but I had a loaner 991 C4S yesterday (brand new) and not only does it have full postcode Satnav, it has Email (!). I connected my BB to it, and then a bit later it beeped at me and showed me a message that I had 12 new messages.. I thought it was talking about texts, but then realised it was Email. Pretty amazed, this is the first car I've seen it on! Pretty bloody dangerous too I would have thought!?!
I was told by Mid-Sussex that there is a hardware difference between the systems in the launch cars and the current cars, no retrofit available. That's just brilliant isn't it? Buy an £85k car, they sneak out a new version, with no fix for the current model whatsover. Not impressed!!
Another thing, has anyone come up with a message on their 991 that they need an oil change? Apparently there is a bug in the software thats there's no fix for just yet, so have to put up with the message every day saying the car needs a service. Oh, they said they'll probably need to change the entire instrument cluster..
Certainly the old case of early adopters performing the R&D...

I can go one better. I have just had the same thing happen to me. But I haven't even got the car yet and it's already out of date ! I Placed an order on the 15th Feb, dealer offered a build slot that had become available to them, not one I had chosen I was in no rush. 100k car, was told DAB was not available as an option and the dealer had no idea when it would be available. Now find DAB was sneaked into configurator as an option two weeks ago. When I tried to get it added or delay build I was told it is too late as car is already in production! No retro fit either. So needless to say I am even less impressed than you. I notice VW announced their intention to offer DAB across their range from early 2013 in a press release last May.! I must have missed the one from Porsche? Although the dealer has offered me the option of cancelling this build and moving to a June build slot to include the DAB for an extra £19k I was told by Mid-Sussex that there is a hardware difference between the systems in the launch cars and the current cars, no retrofit available. Why the hell is it 19k extra?
Loss of 10k deposit on this build, loss of any discount differential associated with the PCP and the price increase coming in June. Even when it's broken down it doesn't feel like a good deal!Edited by Agent51 on Saturday 16th March 09:16

Cannot find DAB as an option on the 991 configurator.
Correct, it is not on the configurator for the 991 yet but it is for the Boxster and Cayman etc it is coming. The dealer has NOW linfromed me it will be on the 991 from June build. Edited by Agent51 on Saturday 16th March 09:11

But then, they also said that the reason for no Bluetooth on the Gen 1 997 was because it was insufficiently reliable, when I had been using it quite reliably in a Range Rover for some time. I don't think there were any breakthrough advances in Bluetooth before it appeared on the Gen 2.
It's another of those things that Porsche does to make a new car just a little bit more appealing than a nearly new one.

I agree broadly, however with Porsche they seem to be constantly adding things and not just waiting for facelifts. The things they add though are often already standard kit on other marques, though.itsybitsy said:

On past schedules I think the 'facelift' is a bit further away, but agree more refinements and upgrades are slipped in during the first two years of production. But, if you keep waiting you'd never buy a car.

Yeah, agreed. But the thing with Porsche is that they are not about all these little bits and pieces, they are about the drive, the engineering, the noise, the gear change. The other add ons are by the by. For example, DAB has been around literally for years on Mercs and works very well, but buying a Porsche it would not be bother me.

It doesn't seem a very fair way to trade and shows very little consideration towards those buying in. If you are unaware of imminent changes how can you make informed choices. You will then commit thousands blindly in the trust you are buying the latest on offer - wrong! So if anyone wants to buy a new 911 wait until June production if you want DAB.Perec said:
On my 991 it bothers me. A lot. The lack of it is the only thing that spoils an otherwise perfect car.
I see where you are coming from. It would be annoying that the same car has the very feature you wanted, but when you ordered all they wanted was to secure your money asap, and if anything probably chose to keep quiet about future releases. Perec said:
