Partition Magic Problem

Help!!!!
I have a PC running Win98. I decided to split the 60 gig drive so that I can put XP on the second partition, as I have some stuff that won't run on XP, so keeping 98 was the answer.
I installed Partition Magic and split the drive. Being the eternal optimist, I didn't create the rescue disks, but just went ahead.
The computer booted to DOS and made the changes. It then rebooted, but 98 wouldn't start. I booted from a floppy and ran FDISK to look at the partitions, but it sais that the active partition (C) has an unknown file system.
When I tried to install XP, it said that it needed to format the C partition, which will of course wipe all of my data!!
Is there any way I can access the data on my C drive, or fix it so that it will boot 98? When I boot from the floppy and do a directory listing of drive C, it sais "invalid media type reading drive C"
Please don't say I've lost all of my data!
Cheers,
Richard

You will need to make a Partition Magic boot disk (from another PC) to see the PM partitions.
Then you can adjust / delete the partitions with the floppy disk. Partition magic is not visible by Microsoft.
You will rarely ever need PM once you upgrade to Win XP as the 'Disk Manager' snap-in does the same job.
