I am picking up my daughters new (old) car.

Insurance?

Can I just get 1 days insurance?

Or does my "3rd party in other cars" bit on my current insurance cover me?

Thanks in advance
Nosh

Have a look at your policy, many only include DOC if the other car has its own insurance policy in place.

Call your insurance company to ask the question to be doubly sure.

If not there are lots of short term day insurance companies that will charge about £30

Your 'third party in other cars bit' should do the job. Check your paperwork to confirm.

Yep, beware the tax/continous insurance malarky....If car is taxed then it should be insured currently. In the past, when buying a car, I've asked the previous owner to leave it insured until I got home, thus allowing me to use my third party cover from my own comp policy to get it home legally. I still signed a reciept dated and timed to protect the seller for the time I actually purchased the car, called him when I got home, said thankyou and he cancelled his insurance. smile

As mentioned some policies allow you to drive other cars

Plan b - most companies also offer temp insurance. I had no problem getting this recently although its a bit of a rip off if you intend having more than a few days.

Ignore all advice but this:

Call your insurer, it's the only definitive advice you will get.

Just drive it....but try not to crash it.

Every other fker on the road is driving round without insurance so for the sake of a quick trip home I would take the chance. You did ask for advice....you don't have to take mine though! smile

Maybe, but there have been several examples on here where an insurer's call centre drone has advised a policy holder that the DOC extension is only valid in cases of 'emergency' (which is tosh)..

OP - read your policy documents, and then read them again. If they state you are covered under your specific circumstances, then you are covered.

Call your insurance co and just ask them to put on your policy temporarily, nearly all insurers will do this.

cheers for the responses - my current insurance with classic line was nbg - cost me £18 for one day.

Home safe and dry....

.....now the preparations for the daughters surprise pressy are underway...

And the car, you ask?

A true classic - 1984 Daihatsu Charade (CX) - 28K miles, I owner (Drs wife) and FULL service history. Not a mark on it, and great fun to drive home....

One of the three models my little girl wanted, and in the colour she wanted as well! smile
