If you want a strong-sim game that you can just dip in and out of try Aerofly FS. (I got my copy off STEAM)
It has some stunning scenery of Switzerland, the only drawback is that's the only area you can fly around in. Get up to altitude and its almost photo-realistic to look at. You get a couple of Cessna's, Gliders, aerobatic aircraft and an F-18 to zip around in, and its a pleasurable enough game to play for a bit at a time.
Another one I've been playing is Rise of Flight, which is a free to play WW1 flight-sim. I only have the free version, which allows me to play the game as normal, with missions and a campaign, but I only have access to an Albatross and a Spad; you have to buy the many other aircraft one at a time. But at £8 a pop for the big bombers, and the regular fighters being about a fiver, its quite pricey. Its a good sim though, really showing you how frail those biplanes were.
And for something more action-orientated but still quite simmy, have a look at WarThunder. Its another free to play game, but is chock full of WW2 aircraft that you earn by playing and getting points. Its basically a Red vs Blue match where you bring all your planes along and keep fighting until you lose all of your planes or one team wins. If you'd played or heard of World of Warplanes, then its exactly the same, but is much more of a simulator with the physics etc.

Thanks All, have just purchased A10, IL2 Cliffs from Steam (what a great invention) and will definately look in to the MMO, looks great.
Have to say, i dont like the Joystick, didnt read up enough, it doesn't move, just senses your force, so hard to fly with, looks great, there are a million buttons on it and the dual throttle is excellent, just he joystick.

I still really like Falcon 4.0 Allied Force - there are whole game mods out there now which really improve the appearance and fro the realism point of view (going through all the switch procedures ect) its spot on - and very difficult.
Theres nothing like spending twenty minutes lining up for a night time bombing run, through thick flack and dodging the odd missile only to press the bomb release when over the target and for nothing to happen (because you forgot to press the master arm switch)

Definitive Battle of Britain Sim you say??
IL2 Cliffs of Dover - much maligned as being buggy on launch (2011) and lacking in features but actually great fun with amazing graphics, great variety of aircraft which are generally historically accurate and as much or as little complexity as you could want. Dead cheap aswell. Buy
Battle of Britain II - ancient flight sim that gets a polish up every year or so from a dedicated group of fans. Graphically a generation behind IL2 but surprisingly good fun and allows for truly massive battles rather than the 20-30 aircraft as in IL2. Graphics aren't that bad at all either.

Both of these, Bob2 still survives with lots of updates, IL2 cliffs of Dover is beautiful and a lot less buggy now, I think i got it off Steam for £6.99, cant go wrong with that.
