Looking to spend around £60 a tyre, for the fronts.

size im looking for is 205/50(or 55)/r16's

Seen some maxxis maz1 tyres for £51 each, they look pretty good?

Anything else worth looking at?

I've always liked kumho ku31 and barum bravuris 2.

The barums are made by Avon IIRC.

GT Radials seem good.

Avoid a "General Grabber" (!!)

+1 Rainsport2 for all around performance at a good price. Very sure footed in the wet as their name suggests.

OP I actually like the Maxxi, and have them now. The only problem is road noise as with all tyres with that pattern. It can sound like a wheel bearing on some road surfaces.

I'm running Rainsport 2's on the wifes E61 3.0 5 Series at the moment, very good in the dry but in standard UK weather (rain) they are superb TBH and inspire a huge amount of confidence in grip and braking. They also ride pretty well.

Before fitting them the car had Kumho KU39's which where a decent tyre, although they didn't last well.

I've also ran FK452's on a 330i before and they were a decent tyre in all conditions.

I'd pay the extra few quid for the Rainsports, if the weather this year is anything like last then their massive advantage over budget (and many premium) tyres in the wet will be worth every penny.

205/55/16 is the more common size - cheaper too, so check what size you actually require.

I have driven over half a million miles on Kumhos and have found them to be an excellent tyre.

Do you mean fitted or not? You might struggle if that price you are after fitted tyres. I dont think any of the camskill prices include fitting, i might be wrong.

As usual the definition of budget is stretched by the PH-massiv, to include tyres which are obviously well above the 'budget' sector.

Of course, the OP should have defined budget more tightly, but threads like this always end up with some wally espousing that anything that isnt the dearest tyre is budget...

He has. I meant defined 'budget', rather than defined his budget.
