Some horrible little st decided to nick the ST badge from the back of my Focus the other night with a screw driver or similar, leaving a load of deep scrapes in the paint right down to the metal. It looks like it took him a while judging by the number of marks!

To retain the 10 year perforation warranty, I need to have the boot repaired by Ford but is it worth it? They have said the boot will need to be resprayed and they'll provide a quote early next week, but I think I could get it done cheaper elsewhere by just having the corner where the badge was done. I have had a rust claim rejected in the past by Honda as a previous repair on that panel wasn't done by Honda, it didn't matter that the body shop I used was Porsche approved, which is why I'm unsure, plus Fords generally have a tendency to rust!

I can't understand people that do this kind of thing, the badges are only £1.49 on eBay and they left the one which is stuck to the front grill with a foam pad so would have come off easily!

I wouldn't, I see your car is a 2010 so unless you're planning on keeping it until 2020 I doubt it's going to give you rusk problems much before then.

Surely the warranty will only be an issue claiming on anything in the boot area?

If you're front arches started rusting then the warranty would cover that regardless of whats gone on on the back of the car?

Really you should dictate who you chose based on quality of work, rather than rust warranty (which I believe for most manufacturers is a battle to extract any repair work from).

If Ford quote a good price, are known locally for quality repairs then of course.

If poor price, poor quality but keep your 10 year warranty, then clearly not worth it.

Personally after a bit of research in my area, only 2 (perhaps 3) in my local area will get to see any of my current/future cars regardless of rust warranty.

Could it be worth taking the car to a couple of other bodyshops to get their opinion.
After all it might not need a full respray.
Gather a couple of quotes and details of jobs, then ask ford it they would do a similar touch up job and retain the warrenty?
