I'm not a huge betting person, but like to have the odd (!) bet.

The betting odds certainly provide an interesting insight in to the forms of different drivers/teams etc, but its kind of beside the point in the F1 threads.

So feel free to use this thread (if needed).

Odds dropped to 18/1 after fp1

Not a bad bet, eh on Sutil for a podium. At one point I thought he'd come good although his pace was decent he did tend to back up the field a bit which suggested one way or another somebody would have made a move on him.

My fastest lap bet was pure fantasy though!

so, who was surprised about the performance of the mercedes today, and what did you think about the lack of pace of the red bulls in comparison to the ferraris.

any predictions for the championship?

I was not surprised by the Mercedes pace. With Button and Hamilton, you can generally get an idea reading between the lines of their comments...

After the FP sessions LH was literally jumping for joy with his comments and I think he went there with much lower expectations.

I definitely think LH could do a 'Alonso 2012' this season if he kept his cool and not get over ambitious though it doesn't look like the car was as bad as the Ferrari initially. Alonso's got this great racing brains, he knows exactly when to attack and when to not put up too much of a fight. Got that balance perfectly judged.

Regarding Championship predictions, I'd like to see till China then maybe get a clearer idea. I wouldn't like to predict now, although it looks like some of the teams have a decent idea about the tyres already...

I had massa ew at 33/1 and sutil in the top 6 at 9/1. Almost :-(

I've tended to go for the championship winner. Then I can adjust over the season to give me free bets or win on all fronts. Admittedly I've been lucky that Seb has been a relative slow starter at the beginning of the past 2 seasons and so been able to cover it all off before the end. I use betfair for this and don't put a great deal down either. Kimi is looking great for me at the moment.

I have put £20 on Alonso to take the title.

I went £15 each way on Alonso for Australia.

Not sure about the next race yet.
