Well that was a mad day, terrible rain, wind, helicopters landing with Russian oil barons onboard. His brother owns some football team or other, anyway what a cracking day. Very frightening, seemed damn fast when I was trying to slow down, track was very exciting as a dry line sort of appeared, kind of hey some grip great, then Sliding into the next corner, woooowwwweeerrrr. Then it rained again. Even had some standing water at the end of a straight, hair razing stuff.

Anyone considering a trackday It's bloody fantastic, if I'd gone on my own I'd have felt very venerable but with a few young and old Tvr heads around it was really enjoyable. Thanks lads it was cool to meet up. You guys won't believe this but I reckon im actually madder than most. I thought you lot were nutters!

These cars in the wet are outrageously crap yet still brilliant fun, if you risk it all you can hang on to the tow truck! Joke

Truth is I loved blowing off a few MX's, crap driver obviously but hey the old V8 roaring past em,,,, I smiled abit. The fast straight before the fast left right, there's a bump half way along it, today rain and all, 3rd 5000 odd revs wheel spin!??! Brilliant.

Considering I was on worn tyres the car impressed me in places and acted like a jack ass in others ..... Or was that me, it was really wet and slick yet it actually flew. Powers engine in these cold conditions seemed fast.

One thing. Seems like I had a flat slot when getting the gas down after all the left handers, had loads of fuel, didn't do it on the rights. Nothing bad just a slight hold back!

Bloody Nora I'm writing a book here.

Great time, great day and I'm still here to talk bafuffle
Thanks to Phazed for getting us off our asses and QBee for being so helpful, next time mate. QBee if you give me the date for Marham, not sure about spelling,I'll book up! Many regards to all you Pistonheads.

Hi Alun,
really great to meet you today. it was good fun wasnt it smile

Award of the day must go to the gent (cant remember his name) who was in the Vincent. Driving up the motorway without a roof and probably no heater is pretty full-on!!!

Who was also in the flaming heli!!! Him and his mate dropped in for a quick prang. Lucky for some I suppose. Did they hit someone! Surely not, I was in my own world as usual? Oh the last run for me was like proper endurance, I stayed out for bloody ages and just settled down and took it all in abit more. Getting used to the lack of steering, stuff like that. I love that last corner, I went through freaking quick once, lost it another time....... Then never quite had it but in them hair brained conditions I felt like Gerry Marshall all opposite lock to lock???!! Only joking. I've just woke up from a dream. Lol lol great to meet all you lads today. I'm bush whacked.

Did you kinda recognise him or am I star gazing, great chap. Tally ho as he went off into the murk with no windscreen and a tiny flying hat. Hope we see him on here or at a track soon.

I did manage two spins in three laps in Phazed's car, plus a 360 as a passenger in the Tuscan. You make yourself out to be a rank amateur Alun, but your left foot braking and steering action made you quicker than most around the corners. And I passengered with most.

The track weekend you referred to is

It is 20 & 21 April at RAF Marham in West Norfolk. £60 per day, open lane, and I promise there will be no Tornados landing as you are hacking down the main runway at over 140 mph.

I went last August, so if anyone wants to see what one lap looks like with a numpty driver who changes down mid corner, just google Marham Chimaera and the YouTube clip will come up.

I will be there this time too, and I know there is a Sagaris and a Tuscan already booked, plus loads of other interesting cars. Last time we had a 185 mph M5, a DB7, a Monaro etc etc. I blagged quite a few rides while Niggles was cooling down. I will e blagging one in the Sag for sure.....

Mat Smith, my TVR expert, has promised to come one of the days to drive my car and set up my suspension better, and Chilliman as promised to call in on his way back fom a respray at Sportmotive (the beastie is getting one too) to drive my car.

One little warning - protect the front of your car if it is pristine or you will get stone chips.

It's been a long time since I drove like that, I've felt sick since. Thanks for your comments QBee, I'm a bugger in the wet, after all the work getting the car sorted i can't believe I took such risks, what a great place, enjoyed the light hearted but proffessional approach by organisers.

Re spins, I had loads of near misses, lost it on the last corner, did 90' one way then the other, ended in the grass!

In truth every corner was a controlled crash!

I've proved something to myself, ain't doing that again.

Want to go back there again, that's a great little track. Has standard corners and racier ones too, lots of bumps also!!!!

It's funny but it's also such fun sharing the track with cool cars. The black Nissan GTR, I gained on him? The blue and Silver one twin turbo 4wd ? I didn't catch him! Lol
Will check out the Marham wk end, sounds brill to me, thanks Anthony.

Alun, don't fool yourself, you'll be out there again in the wet or dry!

I loved it in the rain, a bit buttock clenching but real good fun.

I admit I couldn't stay with the jap turbo car and a couple of the M3s either but I could just about cut it with the others.

My favorite bit was chasing the Caymen in the pouring rain during my last outing, slowly catching up and putting pressure on until we were both losing front and rears and he gave up, brilliant fun!

Can't wait for another TD, roll on!

It's just bloody great or what Peter, addictive there's no doubt, honestly I can't do many more until next year really! !!!

Find the bargains and I'll see!!!! Giving in already!

I'm only going where it's wide and Nout to hit.

The best thing about Saturdays conditions, I learnt about the cars general traits, mild understeer, wild in my case, etc, really love the car, were getting closer I might marry her yet. Lol. We need a tyre supplier who can get us roar assed slicks dirt cheap, we'd rock. I reckon a full on soft race slick..... The car would be magic. Love the neutral balance. Not great in the tight bends but that last left hander,,,,, woooowww my old cart came go mind, first time driving any car on a track and it behaved as I'd expect, I'm sure it's alot more demanding in the dry but that's another day!!!

Jon, if you have a Chimaera you will be surprised how good the standard brakes are. I have done three track days on them and found that the brakes exactly matched the grip of my Yokohama Paradas, which are good dry weather tyres. They were better than my standard road tyres.
The car was designed for track use, after all. If you feel you must upgrade, try better pads first. The big brake upgrade is about £1000 just for the parts IIRC, and you could end up with a car that locks up all the time.
Up to you......

Im sure they are up to the job, but i do need new pads and disks. I was going to upgrade to the larger ford 887/888 calipers but havent got round to it yet. Alternatively i have some four pot brembos in the garage from 406 coupe, just need to have a look to see if they can be made to fit.

You need a metal adaptor plate, but you can then have 330mm disks as per the Ford Focus rs.
