Was having a look though the eBay classifieds and wondered if the Vauxhall Calibra was almost at classic car status yet. Seen this one, and whilst this one below is a expensive option, cant be that long till the price starts to rise

Not with the stupid body kit.

All depends when you grew up.....when I just passed my test this was a to aspire to so if I found an immaculate one, I would buy one....

Most aerodynamic new car on sale back in the day.

I'm sure excellent condition, original cars will become collectible and see a modest rise in values. Modified and bodykitted ste will remain worthless.

Not a fan of that green one.

Yellow ltd edition one would be good, did those come as a turbo?

Deffinatly not. Perhaps a small niche market, but I wouldn't pay that price in the link.

This...

I worked for a company in the mid nineties and one of the salesman had one and I genuinely thought that that car was the very pinnacle of what could be achieved!

Local guy had one in bright red back in the day, with the same bodykit. Didnt look out of place then. Cant see any Calibra reaching classic status anytime soon. The best bit being the engine.

A 4WD turbo maybe, can they be converted to run just RWD ?.

It was a turbo, we used to sit waiting patiently (with our ciders, near the old community center) for him to let it off. They have a distictive sound!

Definitely the best of breed. Old next door neighbour used to have exactly this spec, when I had a Saab 900 T16Aero, used to have quite amusing traffic light drag races

Why was the calibra not liked much? Or is it just a case of it being part of that declinging sector of 2dr coupes?

Discussed at length in another thread (was it 'most optimistic dealer'?).

Interesting car, but not worth anywhere near what he wants for it. Maybe one day, in the far distant future it will be. But not for the next decade or so, I wouldn't have thought!

The Calibra was a car that seemed to suffer an unfortunate fate. The first generation model was a really sleek looking thing. Most of them ended up barried though, and I still see the occasional Max Power Calibra around (a white one near my mam and dad's house, for a start). The ones that weren't barried got a rough ride too, I remember hearing someone describing the Calibra as the ultimate 'keys in the dish a swinger's party coupe'. A strange and disdainful comment...
