Brands Hatch Indy - 25th March
Discussion
I just made the last couple of hours of this but still had brilliant fun!
Was there in the grey r32 skyline gtr - not to one with the sequential g'box! Wish I did have that one though
saw the Mazda and went past it I think??
looked really quick and after I went past kept up really well
track was so clear - was ace!

Thanks a lot for sharing that!
So great to see the old girl from outside - looks so ugly lol!
is your Mazda standard? Certainly goes well
I got a vid - was trying to get some lap times but best I managed was a 55.4 with most being late 55's ... Last year I was sure it would break into the 54's but this year have realised that with my driving that's not going to happen! Was running federal RS-rs.. Good tyres but getting old now and seemed very slippy.. I keep on asking for one of the instructors to take the car out and show me what it can really do but due to insurance etc they're not allowed... I'm sure it can go quicker!

Here's my vid... Always a difficult balance between making too much tyre noise and going quick... I struggle with the latter!

Nice vid, the car sounds awesome
The Mazda is completely stock, other than braided brake lines and uprated pads. Going to get the suspension sorted this month; the dampers are almost non existent at the moment, the car bounces everywhere!
I think you have time to find on druids hairpin, watch my line. Having been instructed by Nigel Greensall on the day (absolutely amazing instructor), he says that braking in towards the apex rather than starting wide isn't the traditional line, but far better at Brands. The reason being is that the straight isn't long enough past the hairpin, so the extra speed gained out of taking the very wide line is negated by the very short downhill stint and having to brake earlier. It's much quicker to concentrate going around the hairpin in the shortest time possible.
If you go to his website here I'd suggest getting some instruction from him for a fresh perspective. He'll also drive your car round and show you what it can do! That's all I've got for you, the rest of your lines look perfect (unlike mine, still getting there!). 55 seconds is a damn fast lap!

Thanks a lot for that - you read my mind about the hairpin! I used to use that line and thought it was faster but one of the instructors taught me to take the wider line... I'm sure it's slower and will definitely be trying it like you next time
I found when using that line whilst chasing someone it usually gains a couple of car lengths, noticed all the racers using that line too.. Do trackday instructors teach different lines to race instructors?
I think I get it - brake in a straight line pointing to the middle of the corner then lose some speed coming out, but like you say it doesnt make much difference because of the next left being quite close...
Checked out the website and would love to get some tuition from that guy... Can I ask you give me a rough idea of what that might cost by pm?
Thanks again for that advice - maybe I will get a 54 one day afterall
cheers,
Sam

No worries, it's really surprising how much you gain on cars in front using the wide line. Sorry but I've no idea about the cost - it was a surprise birthday present (it was my 18th on Monday
). Will definitely get some tuition from him in the future though, makes you much quicker than any mod you can spend on your car! Probably going to get to Snetterton on May 5th, looks like there's another road car only track day there on a Sunday, lovely track.
