500 SL alternator R107

Does anybody where to source an alternator for a 1984 500 SL any idea of price and part no.

Your nearest Mercedes-Benz dealer.

Or if money is a concern, any motor factor. ECP will have one in stock. Price, about £125, maybe a bit more maybe a bit less. Bosch and Lucas are the two likely brands.

Thanks tried ECP what a shambles, the website says not available on line call our Mail Order Depot so I did
they put me on hold for 5 minutes then cut me off I ring back and I am 4th in the queue again
when I finally get through they said we can't find it try your local ECP whose number I will need to look up on their website.

Any other ideas ?

GSF I usually find to be better than ECP. Or a breaker like Mercman, a Bosch dealer or Ebay. Are you sure it's the alternator or just regulator you need? Merc/Bosch alternators are usually very long-lived, though I had bearings go on one at 220k which was fair enough...

Not sure what the problem is just know it is not charging the brand new battery - is this any good ?

you could try to get the old one repaired , i have a local chap who does this for me

The ebay one will be ok, if it's new it'll probably be a Chinese one though for that price.
Not charging sounds like it might be the regulator to me, usually they just attach to the back of the alternator by 2 screws and are easy to check/change and a lot cheaper than a new alternator. How many miles on the car? Have you had any other funny electrical issues?

Ok might go for the repair jobby, it has 78k on the clock and no other electrical issues
