What are your favourites?

I absolutely adore Honda NSX, TVR Sagaris and now the Noble M600 is growing on me very fast.

The Lexus LF-A is per definition not an underdog (they are all sold out, it didn't lose anything to the competition), but also a fantastic showcase of what a bunch of enthusiasts of a company can create.

Love those. They were dirt cheap a few years ago. Not anymore. frown

I'll nominate the Maserati Bora. Lovely proportions.

Oh and something a little cheaper, the Fiat Barchetta.

Let's try for a few,
  • Renault Sport Spyder (ahead of Elise)
  • Lotus Elan M100 (FWD dead end)
  • Renault A310/Alpine/GTA (rear-engined turbo nuttery)
  • Matra Simca (3 seats in a row)
  • MVS Venturi Atlantique (the French Esprit)
  • AC ME 3000 (mid-engined lost cause)
  • Fiat X1/9 (mid-engined Triumph Spitfire)
  • Lancia Beta Montecarlo (mid-engined Italian)
  • Fiat Barchetta (MGB the Brits wouldn't buy)
There's a lot of mid-engined Continental going on here; and why not?! smile

FWD and wrong hand drive. Never stood a chance.

Shame, still a pretty little thing today.

Lamborghini Jalpa

Possibly the only Lamborghini where you need to point out to people it's a Lambo, and even then they'll have a hard time believing you.

MG SV (not my favourite underdog sportscar, but there's something about its "I don't give a toss" attitude that I like).

Shamelessly nicked from Jay Leno's Ga-rage, the Maserati 3500 GT

I don't know how the original owner could forgive himself for not spending the same cash on its rival, the 250 GTO or half as much on a DB5, still, beautiful car from the coolest car manufacturer ever and completely undervalued imho.

Good one. Always forget these exist. Saw one at LM a few years ago and they look very good in the flesh.

Another one, Ginetta G33. I know they are more than a little bit 'kit car' but I badly wanted one when I was a youngun. Still look great in my opinion and I'm sure they go quite nicely with a Rover V8 under the bonnet.

Oh and another more recent one that seems to be already forgotten.

That's an interesting one. It's the recent Lotus Europa for the many who may never have seen one. Essentially a nicely trimmed Elise coupe with Vauxhall VX220 engine.

It was a decent enough car killed by ridiculously high price IMO. I think they cost about £35,000 when you could get an Elise from about £25,000.

Yep, very appealing car but didn't quite fill a niche that probably didn't need filling in the first place. I have a soft spot for them but frustratingly (and interestingly) residuals seem to be holding quite firmly.
