Has anyone ever tried to duplicate roasted garlic in a microwave.

I could of course just nip the top off and throw one in my microwave, but I see a potential tragedy so thought it worth asking.smile

Is this a serious question or some sort of "PH in joke" that 99% of readers won't understand?

It won't roast but it will be really easy to peel, it's how I make garlic butter.

In the absence of exploding garlic stories, tell me more. I normally roast the whole bulb first...

I have a terracotta garlic roaster, and if you soak it in cold water for 15 mins then pops couple of bulbs inside and chuck the lot in the microwave for 5 mins, you get a surprisingly edible end result. Not as good as proper roasting in the same device, but then it's 80% quicker to make.

Ah great, thanks, will get myself one.

Is that 5 minutes on full power?

I once eat two whole roasted bulbs, everything was ok until the early hours of the morning, then I started farting, I reckon that I could have filled a hot air balloon, I was genuinly worried for my health ( well my exhaust ) the menu really should have carried a health warning.

The reason I eat so much garlic was that no one else at the table really liked it that much, it was a communal starter, up until that point I thought garlic only did good for you.

Slice the pointy end off a whole bulb, nuke for a minute or so. Squeeze the gooey mess into butter.
