Wheel Bearing Questions x 2

The taper always goes into the middle of the hub for inner and outer bearing races
your 1st pic shows you what you should be looking at from both sides of the hub inc the rears
and has Pupp states the outer races (shiny tapered rings) are removable either with a suitable drift punching out evenly and straight or better still a hydraulic press
I must emphasize not to mix inner and outer races up they are matched sets and clearance wise to work in harmony together hence why they should be left in their packet's/bags before assembling and greasing

Cheers Simon - excellent info (as usual!)

Heat it up a bit, then fast freeze to tap out, the carriers bearing surface tend to get damaged ~ whether material fault or bad maintenance I don't know ~ but lots of cars will have had them liberally glued in with bearing lock which can make the job in hand more difficult & potentially disastrous.

rats - thanks Spend. I do have a 20 Ton shop press so I will give it a light persuasion with that and hopefully the bugg3rs will move

surprised he didn't recommend you use a good quality grease too
(I reckon he's slacking)
seen a few Granada's and Sierra with bodged hubs back in the day
also you wont need anywhere near 20 tons to ping those outer cups out of the hubs the press gauge will barely register before you see them moving IMO it's a very easy job
what I meant about the races and cups was don't mix them from one bearing set to another even if they look identical they are not
