I though V8D did the ones with the bigger inlet ports.. I've just called them and they say they don't exist.. they just use std Landy ones?... so is it someone else who's doing them... Or are they all std Landy ones??.....

I've just buggered mine up from John Eales so if that was a std Landy unit, they don't need much modification for the 500 heads?? smile

All the composite ones are nominally the same size, just quality variations I guess.

You need to clamp it down a bit, just enough so the ports leave an impression on both faces. Then carefully mark heads, manifold & gasket to index the positioning....

Remove the gasket and work out from the impressions where you are... On the inlets you want to err on the side of manifold being smaller than heads (ie the step in the right direction).

If you want to be anal you can go through the step of trying to adjust the location of the manifold vs heads there is probably up to 1mm you can jiggle ~ I use thin polystyrene like pizza bases to do that, only progressing to the valley gasket when location / porting is complete to trim the gasket. When you've marked up what you want to cut clamping between 2 blocks makes it easier to trim unless you are going with with 'bash it in' method.

Interesting - I am getting mine back from V8D this week with bigger inlets, shorter crumpets etc. I will have a look if i can before the whole lot goes back in the car, that is if it arrives flat packed ( doesn't everything now? ) rather than ready assembled

Hi Dave

Yes.. I've done that and the heads and manifould are quite close...
I've then fitted the gasket and pushed it into the ports.. removed it and fettled it back to size before re-fitting and checking.. It appears to work quite well this way... but with all my messing and trial and error this one is looking a bit naff.. so now I have the process I'll get a new one...
Just wanted to save work if there was such a thing as a big inlet version... I've seen posts in the past saying they exist... But I'm guessing it's a load of cock wink

Even though it's shorter I fail to see how this is going to make you any more power

You're warped Simon!

I assumed he was referring to a loud mouthed short/fat female? Are they common in Lincolnshire?

Aren't those the heat proof air-filters that you can get from Sainsburys in packs of 8?
Surely the butter will block the airflow?

Man maths time, but at least I can't be accused of spending the kids' inheritance - they're living in it, as you know.

Went in to have the exhaust manifolds welded, quick £100 job alongside the annual service. Problems arose, discussions along the lines of "while we've got the heads off, is there anything you'd like to do?"

One thing led to another and, whilst i was offered some 4 litre upgrade options, when i was offered a complete upgrade option at a very reasonable price, the man maths calculator came out.

So I am getting a complete package from V8D:
a 5 litre TVR block, cross bolted and internally balanced and whatever else they do to the crankshaft etc to make it reliable
Stage 3 heads, ported and so on
Larger induction kit
Shortened crumpets and so on
Stealth cam
Lightened flywheel

Mark Adams chip for the good old Lucas for now, see how it goes - ECU upgrades do seem to be a mixed blessing and I want to be able to enjoy the car immediately.

And my clutch was on its last legs, so will just be replaced when it all goes back into the car. Mat will install it all and set it up, and then set up the suspension for fast road and track day use.
