I'm just watching 5th Gear and they did a piece on industrial units that have all the bits and pieces you need to service your car yourself (tools, lifts, ramps etc). Does anybody know of a company that I could look up about this sort of thing.

It would be nice to know if there are any near by me in Berkshire. I can't work out a search term in Google that doesn't come up with a garage to park your car in...

Good shout, that would appear to be the closest to me. It's a little too far to justify it at the moment though.

It's a great idea, they should look into holding classes so people will be more confident to do the work themselves.

I recently helped a friend out who is here with the USAF. They have centres like this on their bases with fully stocked tool kits and a couple of mechanics on hand if you get stuck. They had every tool imaginable in stock.

$5 per hour per bay including four post lift!

Investigate courses at a local college, I did a 10 week evening course on basic mechanics last year and loved it. Best £200 I've spent on cars....
