My favourite shape Aston Martin of all time, far prettier than the single headlight V8 that followed.

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C373069#.UUdzwG...

A smallblock V8 (presumably American, probably Chevrolet)lives where the alloy AM 4 cam once resided so the car is up for a third or less than the price of a correctly powered car.

If the body is rot free and the rest of the mechanicals are good, I am kind of thinking it could be an opportunity to own a damn pretty car at a lower initial outlay and with potential to tune it further or even install a later GM V8. Especially if it could be bought for less than the asking price even.

It'll either go quickly or stay for sale for ever. Or I'll go mad and end up with it.

I guess it is what it is but anyone else see the potential for owning a great looking car albeit with the wrong powerplant?

P.S. to avoid being murdered I decided not to post it on the Aston Martin forum!

I would.

Sure it'd be nice to have the original motor, but it's still an awesome car for a relatively small outlay.

If an engine swap keeps it on the roads, so be it smile

Works for me, it's not like he's dropped in a 2.0 Duratec is it?

I'm not normally one to advocate "big rims" but those wheels look awfully small don't they?

Blimey it's all thumbs up so far, personally I love the idea. Yes those 15" wheels look small but the wires look great.

Maybe the seller will be overwhelmed by PHers!

I figure that a replacement AM engine is going to cost less than the difference between this and a "real" one. Start saving the pennies and look for a motor to put in there I guess.

At the end of the day it's a lovely looking thing with bags of character, is effortlessley 'cool' and still makes the right noise and should go well.

OOI how much would a 'proper' one cost?

You need to mate that DBS up with this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASTON-MARTIN-TWIN-SUPERC...

for the definitive retro Aston. Cost would be the major factor, they want £48,000 for the engine & gearbox alone and you'd need to spend at least or probably more than that again on the brakes, drive-train and suspension but you'd get the original design with the ultimate version of the engine.

At least 50 or 60k for a nice one...
