How strong's your chest? Press-ups in a minute
Discussion
This might be interesting. Copy & paste like below. Also, don't cheat yourselves... a proper press-up, as in doesn't have to touch but parallel to the ground and your nose around 1-1.5" off the ground and then fully extend the arms. Obviously add to the thread in weeks/months to come if you improve or (hopefully not!) get worse.

Weight: 75kgs
Current bench: don't do it anymore! Was 120kgs 1RM about 2 years ago.
Press-ups in 1 minute: 80
100 press-ups in 1 minute is seriously going some! That's nearly 1 press-up every half a second and gravity is only so strong.
btw, ACSM's global population norms give you this table.

edit: forgot to add, the official ACSM test finishes if you have to pause at any point for more than a second or so. I'm gussing the OP test doesn't. Incomplete reps are also not counted.

Age: 52
Height: 6'
Weight: c.140kgs/310lbs/22st
Bench: 160kgs/350lb x 2 reps when doing them, current @ 110lb single arm dumbbell benchpress x 12 ish
Press-ups in 1 minute: edit - only 48 non-stop today but took less than a minute, so with brief pauses in the lock-out position - would be more. Back at it then!
Now the staple of my strength training, to the point I keep dithering about selling all my remaining weights and just doing these, bodyweight stuff and Bulgarian Bag circuits.

I have to say I reckon anyone quoting much over 60 in one minute isn't doing them as outlined in the OP.
Have a look on youtube & there are some ferociously ripped guys on there doing anywhere between 60-100 in one minute, but I've yet to find one that's dropping to within 1.5" and then FULLY extending the arms on the way up.
So either some of you guys are superman or you're kidding yourselves about how true to form your technique is.
This guy; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_LqFptFd-o 105 in 1 min but look at how bent his arms are at the top of the rise.
Same thing although I think this guy is better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmvBXJcv6lc
As for this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pKl19i_8a4 he "only" manages 98 in TWO minutes and look at the shape he's in!
But that aside, is a push-up challenge like this more about endurance rather than strength i.e. just because you can bench 150kg doesn't mean you can bang out a bunch of push-ups in quick succession for one minute?

^ yep very true. My score (which I managed to improve from 69 to 80 in 4 weeks) was to ACSM standards. This is arms bent 90 degrees to fully straight, not to 1.5 inches from the floor.
I'd always wage anyone who has done 70 and thinks they can bosh out 100 no problem hasn't quite discovered just how hard it is to improve your reps once you get past 60. As I said, gravity is only so strong and seconds still tick away at the same rate...
And if anyone thinks regular push-ups are hard, try Thai Push-ups. I was made to do this twice a week for 2 years... as a warm-up. M0f0 to learn!
