Hi Guys

The old can't start it chestnut is back.
Any clues what to try to get going.

Alarm fob seems to trigger hazard light flashing so something's happening but press the black button and no starter motor.
It also does lock/unlock the doors.
The fuel pump runs and all the other electrics work but not the starter solenoid.
The starter is virtually new (750 miles or so).

The internal alarm light doesn't seem to do anything.

Battery is fully charged.

Could you have knocked the silver key? Not sure if that shuts down everything or just prevents the car from starting? Worth a quick check perhaps?

I've thought about the "key of doom".

I was hoping there was something else to try before entering that dangerous realm!

Just tried it and ...... no difference!

I'm fairly sure it's immobiliser related as the fobs does two different things.
First press, several flashes of hazard lights.
Second press, one longer illumination of hazard lights.

Is it the second press that is the disarming signal?

Classic symptoms of the immobiliser starting to fail on its internal the starter relay.

The only solution (other than bypassing it and probably invalidating your theft insurance) I found is to replace the thing. They seem to have a distinctly finite life.

I'd love to bypass it to test but my guess is that I'd be out of my depth in trying that one so .....
What's the one to replace it with?
Sadly, I'd be looking at the bottom end of the scale as I was only getting it out for the MOT prior to advertising for sale!

Any suggestion who to get to do the job in the Bournemouth area?

You really want to replace it with the same unit. After market alarms seem to give even more trouble than the Meta ones. http://www.abacuscaralarms.co.uk/ stock the later M99T alarm and immobiliser but I have no idea who to get to fit it, I did my own. People speak very highly of Carl Baker at http://www.tvruk.tv/ but I have never used him myself.

You can bypass it with a length of wire to check if it is that circuit or not..

Still interested in getting some more pics and vids, if you are considering selling. Email them, if/when you are ready. Thanks.
