Evening guys, I expect this has been asked before but with the search still down....
Driving the Griff I keep getting a noise from the drivers door lock. Sometimes when cornering enthuastically or going over bumps it sounds like the lock solenoid being activated. Also if I push the door I can get the same thing. Before I go stripping out the lock and checking it all through, any ideas?
What does the door switch in the sill control other than the courtesy light and alarm, and why should this affect the lock?
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a Griff 500 ?
Thanks in advance

Mr Nordic

Hi
It is the door flexing causing door switch to make / break causing the lock solenoid to click

Tape each door swicth down as it couold be one of them that has gone. Crap design but easy to replace. Do you still have the rubber pad on the door as if this has dropped off then the switch isn't depressed enough and may cause the "chattering".

I was thinking along the lines of door switch but what does it control in the lock? Are the solenoids only to lock/unlock or are there other solenoids or motors in there as well?
Thanks again

If the door switches aren't working the car thinks the doors are open so try these first as they are easy to check. Then start looking further up the wiring.

FFG is spot on. The door switches are very vulnerable to picking up dust and grime and then become intermittent. In addition to your problem they can cause the locking/unlocking sequence to get confused and either the doors dont lock or wont unlock. If they are a few years old I would change them both, only a few quid from a TVR dealer.

A far worse problem I experienced was the drivers door opening when driving over bumps. After stripping down the locks (there is only the single motor/solonoid in each door) found everything OK.
Turned out to be a bag in the boot hitting the cable for the emergency opening mechanism. Put a bit more slack in this cable and problem solved.

There is a plastic button attached to each door which pushes the switch. When the button falls off you get exactly the symptom you describe. A stick on rubber foot does the job nicely.
