I have a mocal style remote oil filter mount and it needs an oil filter with 3/4UNF fitting, 80mm diameter. It says 'most Ford filters will fit' but 80mm diameter is a pretty small filter so I'm looking for something quite 'deep'. It's for an LS7 so I'm not sure if something off a 1.3 or whatever is going to take the flow of 7 litres-worth of goodness.

So - anyone running an 80mm remote oil filter with good flow and filtration?

Standard LS filters are pretty small to start with, so wouldnt be overly concerned. But if you're running a remote filter, why is space so tight ?

If you go onto Amazon, usually it will give dimensions of the filters on any listings, and if you're lucky the actual thread type too.

Google be your friend.

Alternative part numbers are in the full detail of each filter and include the cars it fits which should give clues to its capacity.

space isn't tight - the remote filter head takes an 80mm diameter filter and that's the only constraint.

Thanks for that, but if you search 80mm or 3/4 UNF or any combination nothing useful comes up, nor on eBay. It all assumes you know what the car model is. I spent a whole evening on the net trying to find something including trawling the Fram site, K&N site etc...

Thanks, but not my friend unfortunately, and going through the link I must have clicked on over 50 of the filters presented and only one came up as 80mm, but being only 56mm deep it smaller than I want.

I gather an 80mm filter on 3/4UNF is THE standard size for a Mocal remote oil filter. What do all you folks with remote filters use? Someone has to have a Mocal remote filter on a race car or a track car?

Just exactly what dimension are you referring to when you state 80mm ?

Of course, you could just go into a motor factors and try filters. But the actual sealing ring on most filters is the same. There might be some odd variations, but most are about the same size.

80mm is the stated diameter of the filter, and measuring the remote filter head it's the diameter of the face the sealing ring mounts to. Loads of folks sell Mocal remote filter heads and depending on the model the fittings are simply stated as 80mm or 96mm filter diameter and 3/3" or 1" UNF. Mine happens to be 80mm and 3/3 UNF.

The filter head is now bolted into the car and plumbed in, but yes I could take it out again. But I have a few other spare filters from other cars in the garage and the sealing rings are quite definitely all very different sizes.

I can do all these things - I had just hoped someone had a Mocal style remote filter head on a race motor and could say 'yes, use filter number XXX'. And the problem with typical local factor is a lot of their stuff is not known brand. Having spend well over the cost of a whole new car putting this motor in the chassis I really want the best filter pennies can buy that fits the filter head.

I have had a Mocal style, but havent a clue what filters I used. But there were various ones !

On my Rover V8, pretty sure I just used a Rover V8 filter, or maybe some LDV/taxi one that was huge.
I fitted one to a friends Cossie years ago...and just re-used the Cossie filter, ie Pinto.

My own LS engine doesnt use a remote housing, but a similar adaptor, Ive used various filters on it.

Really, the sealing o-ring diameter varies very very little across hundreds of filters.

I have spare Moroso race filters from the now-grenaded small-block Chevy that I guessed I would just use on the LS but the sealing must be an inch bigger diameter.

I have the Mocal remote and the 80mm is the sealing ring diameter.
I have a MAHLE OC132 fitted which is 95mm diameter and 145 deep it's pretty large and works fine on my 6.7L SBC.
Put that into the link I gave before and you will find cross reference to other makes.
The list of 'used on vehicles' seems to be mainly tractors and earth moving machines so should be big enough.

Thanks for that - I'm on the case now.

Normal LS filter is about 80mm actual OD, and about the same height, it uses a very very small filter in comparison to engine size.
I changed the 13/16 thread to M20 and just used some Citroen filter for a while.
Ive a different sump and back to 13/16 and using some old Leyland filter at the minute.
They all had the same sealing ring diameter. I guess Euro stuff are closer matched than some yank stuff.
