Can anyone tell me what is the worst case/best case scenario in money terms for an engine rebuild on 4.5 Cerb?
Cheers

Around £3k if it's just a top end or bottom end at an independent, up to £10k if it's a full rebuild plus ancillaries at TVR.

Erm...

Best case: You find someone that's always wanted to work on an AJP engine, and they offer to pay you a substantial amount of money for the privilege of letting them fix it, and they make it put out 500BHP "because they can"

Worst case: You've got to buy a whole new engine. And TVR don't make AJPs any more (unless they still do 'em for the Tuscan Racer? ) So you'll end up having to pay, what, £7k+ for a brand new engine of similar spec.

I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear, though. Are you looking at buying one that needs a rebuild? If so, and it'll struggle on for another couple of thousand miles, you might be lucky and be able to get a warranty and put it through on that.

Lee,

Are you still looking at that yellow 4.5?

I know a few friends who went to the factory last year as they were having repair work done and they saw a vast number of engines (~30) in crates or on blocks ready for rebuilds, all of which were speed 6s, except one... So they asked why (one has a 4.5 Cerb the other was looking for at the time and now has one) and it turns out the owner thwakked the sump and kept running it when dry

From what I've heard and read the AJP V8 is pretty bullet-proof as well as it is serviced on schedule and the correct adjustments made - hence why I'm looking for one

This is not an anti-SP6 reply...

Was at bedford Autodrome earlier in August and there was a Cerb 4.5 caning it round that over 90,000 on the clock.

Pretty reassuring really.

I paid £5500 for a rebuild of a 4.5. Nearly a completely new engine - ie just the block and crank were kept.
I wouldnt agree that 4.5s are bullet proof. But they are pretty damn good though.
