"Saftey" Camera Van
Discussion
Wish I had on board video in my cab today, heading for Alexandria this morning, taking the bridge turnoff what f
ks its way into the safe braking gap i've left? Yes Strathclyde Scamera Van SF08KNU. Guess as he was only driving like an a
hole and not speeding thats ok? Theres a reason lorry drivers leave a bigger gap coming to a queue of near stationary traffic. Its so I can safely stop 26 tons without running into the car in front.
But was scameraman finished? Nope. He then proceeds to undertake a car on the bridge.
But remember, he was probably in a hurry to keep us "safe"

t...Dear Sirs,
At about 1500 on Thursday 19th July I was driving myself and my partner
along the Westbound M80/M8 into and through Glasgow, in the 50mph limit
section of that road. Behind us was a marked Strathclyde Police Mercedes
van/minibus, index number SG52 NHA, emblazoned with 'safety' camera
logos. At this point, I noticed a dark Vauxhall approaching in the
right-hand lane - I estimated his speed at about 60-65mph. As he went to
pass the camera van, the van swerved into the outside lane in an obvious
attempt to block the Vauxhall's progress.
The car eventually passed both the van and then ourselves. The van then
accelerated, straddling the lane divider and flashing its headlights,
before then passing us at at speed I estimated to be in excess of 75mph.
It immediately started tailgating the Vauxhall at less than a car's
length. The Vauxhall pulled into the left-hand lane, at which point the
Police van then pulled alongside the Vauxhall and deliberately boxed it
into the inside lane as it approached another vehicle. The police van
remained in that position in the right-hand lane, immediately to the
rear three-quarter of a van, in order to continue to box in the
Vauxhall, for the four miles or so for which we had it in sight, at
about 60-65mph, and causing a tailback of traffic behind it.
The driver of the police van was a late middle-aged white male, not
apparently wearing a police uniform, simply a dark blue or black jumper.
Conditions were dry and clear and traffic reasonably light.
Much of the traffic on the road was marginally-to-mildly exceeding the
posted limit, but the only actually stupid and dangerous driving that
was going on anywhere along that stretch of motorway was being committed
by the driver of your vehicle.
When faced with such stupid, dangerous and arrogantly sanctimonious
behaviour, can you be surprised that most road users regard all
camera-based enforcement with utter contempt, as hypocritical and as
having nothing to do with genuinely road safety? This was an appalling
example for a driver of a police vehicle to set, and I look forward to
your response, with details of what action you intend to take. For your
information, the slogan along the van's side was of the nature of
"camera save lives". If that is the case, then what we clearly had was
an example of the balance of nature in action, with your driver doing
his best to take a few away.
And am I qualified to make these observations? I hope so, especially
given the grossly obvious nature of the fool's driving - I'm an IAM
Observer, am RoSPA qualified to Gold standard and have been an
instructor with the police BikeSafe scheme.
Very interesting this, as I have complained about the driving standards of the very same van to Strathclyde Police and had no response. I wrote last week a second time saying if I didn't get a response I would go further.
Van pulled out to overtake on a long left hand bend which wasn't clear. Car in other carriageway had to take avoiding action as did I. Wishing I had the camera on in the car for that.

Hypocrits. It's impossible to respect these morons regardless of their uniforms. Time to start publically outing them and losing them their jobs and pensions. As tax payers we can't be having these idiots leeching our money when there are clearly better people for the job.

Hah! I got a phone call from an Inspector, who wanted to come out and meet me to explain that his highly trained driver was in fact operating at a level of advanced driving whose nuances I, as a mere mortal, couldn't possibly comprehend. I asked if the driver was going to be subject to disciplinary action. He said no, so I asked why I would possibly want to waste my time talking to no purpose whatsoever? Complete snow job. if I see anything like that again, I'm hitting the camera button.

I bet these civilians are ex fuzz who took retirement a big lump sum followed by a healthy pension to then walk into this job which required past experience.
