I normally have a 20 yr old cousin on hand to set this up for me, but my brother and I are both in our 30s and have just bought an Xbox and COD4 etc.

We are so far unable to complete or even start a level as a team. When we click on multiplayer, we can fight each other but the CPU isn't providing any baddies to shoot. There is no option to complete a campaign as a pair.

I'm sure this is an easy fix but I can't figure it. Any ideas?

You can't do "Co-Ops" on COD4. You can on MW2 onwards. IIRC.

Io felt sure that a free for all on COD 4 was at a least a load of baddies?

Judging by comments on youtube, yahoo and google searches, neither support offline multiplayer with bots.

Edit: Try combat training on Black Ops, not sure exactly what it does, but people appear to be playing against bots?

It's been a while since I've played it but COD4 doesn't have a co-op or AI bot multi-player on the Xbox as far as I remember. You can either play online with other people or split screen locally but with not bots.

COD Blops has Zombie mode which you can play split screen co-op which is great fun as well as the ability to play multiplayer against bots. You need to go into private match and then add the bots\change settings as you like.

Righto, thanks for the responses chaps.

Which COD DOES have co-op vs AI bots then? Because Ive definitely done it but am slightly unclear which version it was.

Black Ops does, as mentioned in the reply above yours, go into a private match and add in bots at the difficulty level you like, then make sure you both go on the opposite team to the bots.

For co-op campaigns try MW2 and MW3 which both have a Spec Ops mode.

Great, ill try. Does that require being connected to the net?

The Combat Training mode does yes, this allows you to level up like you do in the online multiplayer.

You can go into SplitScreen local multiplayer and add in bots by pressing select as you're setting the game up, but you won't be able to level up like in Combat Training.

Ok I'm going to need a walk through for this. Select? I don't have a select button or select option? Setting the game up at which stage?

Confused.

Digging around online, it says that you need a patch for the game in order to enable the bots offline. But you'll need to be online in order to download the patch. You don't need a Gold subscription to Xbox Live to do this, but you'll need to plug it in and download the latest patch for it first.

If you can do that, then you go to the multiplayer menu, select Local > Team Deathmatch and then you can press the 'Back' button (I always call it select as I'm still used to it being called that on every other system) to change the game options and add in bots.

The reason you're not seeing this option is probably because you've not got the latest patch installed. If you can't get it online at all, then you're a bit stuck unfortunately.

Something seems to have worked! Got online, did a download or two and now can include up to 8 other AI soldiers and fight against them on multiplayer split screen.

Ideally though, I'd like to play the actual campaign levels as a team. I think I will need a different COD for that(?)

Many thanks for your help here SE.

Good stuff, you can't really go through the campaign on any of them, but Modern Warfare 2 and 3 have some co-op missions that are based on the campaign, but are short little bite-size chunks.

Good co-op games to try would be any Gears of War, or one of the Halo games.

Lost many an hour to nazi zombies on black ops.Stopped going to the pub on a Tuesday night and just have friends round for beers and zombie slaying.A great way to spend an evening.
