Hi All, I was quoted £130 to insure my 911 which is worth around £20K, with a £2K excess for one track day at Bedford Autodrome.

I have not bothered with track day insurance before so have no idea is this is reasonable, any comments from those in the know and any suggestions of insurers who will cover one off days like this that I could contact for a quote?

Cheers.

In my relatively limited experience premium of 1% of value and 10% excess is considered the ballpark, so that's not bad. Bedford has a reputation for big run off areas and being harder to have a big crash than some other places

Some insurers offer track cover thrown in with their road cover which might be attractive depending on how often you go on track

My track car is worth very little now and the "free" trackday cover more than doubled the premium, so I don't bother

It costs me £65 on top of my policy with Pace Ward with a 10% excess of the value of the vehicle.

Hi, similar question so I didn't think it worth starting a new thread:

Which companies offer included track days with their road cover? I'm currently with cci who offer 5 included days but they've just quoted me over £700 to renew my Porsche 924s track car insurance! Needless to say I think this is steep and I'll be ringing round for a better quote but I really want some included track days. Thanks

That sounds very reasonable, and is less than I was quoted from MORIS for £15k cover - although mine was on a 'Ring Tourist day rather than a track day.

However the 1% premium/10% excess sounds familiar.

MSV also have their own insurance scheme (run by TowerGate IIRC) - but never had a quote so don't know how competitive they are.

HIC / Adrian Flux offered me "free" trackday insurance, but it did cost £700 extra

Do we all go on trackdays thinking we're going to bin our pride & joy? I feel safer on a racetrack than I do on the public road... I have never bothered with trackday insurance but I don't do it often enough, and my car isn't worth enough, to really get any benefit from it. For me a trackday is just a fun way to drive faster legally, and as long as everyone maintains the usual trackday rules/driving standards, I don't see insurance need come in to it.

My Boxster is with Manning on a policy including track days. You don't have to inform them of which days you're doing but it's usually a requirement that the organiser is a member of the ATDO - or the other one!

I only get track insurance for a few instances:
1) when I'm going to a track that I'm unfamiliar with
2) when I'm using car that I'm unfamiliar with
3) when I'm going to a 'magazine' trackday
4) at the 'Ring

My insurance is only an extra £250 pa for 5 trackdays and road cover. I think it's worth the premium to cover for a 'biggie'. If you can't afford to loose it, insure it IMO.

Watch this then post your thoughts afterwards.

Pay particular attention to the poor chap, innocently coming out of the pits, who gets taken out by the silver evo.

I get cover for 5 track days included in my insurance from Bridle - it's arranged through Competition Car Insurance. www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk

From the policy docs it looks like the premium is £5 per thousand of vehicle value subject to a minimum £75.

Fully comp cover with an excess of £1,000 plus the normal road policy excess.

For a stand alone policy the costs may well be higher but it's worth giving them a call.

Just curious but who insures you for the'Ring? I take it you mean the Nordschlief not just the F1 track...

For 'Ring trackdays and public days I use MORIS.

Slightly off topic but im researching track day insurers and ended up here!
My car is worth 2K and was bought to have fun on the track... Im heading to the Nurburgring at the end of this month and was in a tiz about 3rd party insurance insurance... Till I read the following (Im now only interested in break-down cover)

Buying track day cover
Track day insurance companies can provide insurance for you on Nurburgring TF sessions and track days but it is expensive (starting at the higher of £250/day or 1.5% of the value of your car), and policies often have high excesses and low maximum payouts (for example, an excess of £5,000 and a maximum payout of £20,000). The price for insurance usually decreases for two or more days, on the basis that if you didn't crash the first day, you're less likely to crash on subsequent days. The top five UK companies in this field on Google are:

•MIS
•REIS
•Everitt Boles
•Competition Car Insurance
•OAMPS
These policies may include damage to the track, but almost never include third party damages to other cars or drivers. If you can be blamed for a multi-car crash on the Ring (say due to an oil leak from your car), the crash damage can easily run into hundreds of thousands of euros. Add in the potential for damages to other people and it could easily reach millions of euros to settle a claim. Add in the cross-border element and it becomes easy to see why insurers have zero interest in covering Touristfahrten driving for a small fraction of their customers.

You're confusing TRACK DAY insurance with 3rd party ROAD insurance.

Track days are run on a cover-your-own-arse basis.

If you hit another car and THEY don't have insurance than it's their problem for not taking out insurance. I suppose there's nothing to stop them coming after you for damages, but I'm sure the track day terms & conditions usually make it clear that it's their own responsibility to ensure they've got their own insurance.

For public days at the 'Ring it's more complicated, as the 'track day' cover will cover damage to your car only. So if you cause an accident then you'll likely be liable for any consequential 3rd party costs too. Your UK road policy might cover you if it specifically says so, but 99.9% of them won't.

I meant 3rd party liability... Im not bothered about the price of my car (It was bought cheap to have fun in) but I am bothered about dinging a ferrari, track closure / dammage and recovery... It seems to be a minefield to navigate through! Its certainly not one phone call! I seem to be going round in circles trying to get decent cover!
