CLK55 AMG what a car!
Discussion
Well I've just trading in my 2008 Alfa 159 1.9D for a 2001 CLK55 AMG.
I might have just committed financial suicide, but wow this thing is worth it.
It's absolutely f
king awesome!!
The power, the noise, the power
The exhaust system is amazing, low throttle and it's absolutely silent, but then bury your foot, and it makes the most amazing sound.
Its just soo nice to drive, cruise down the motorway in absolute comfort and silence, then get onto a B road put your foot down and I honoustly can't believe how fast it is for a 2ton car.
And the brakes are from another planet! How can something so heavy stop so fast.
I was a bit worried that an auto box would ruin the "fun" from the big engine, but can gladly say it suits it perfect, and can't believe how easily you can spin the rear tyres up!
The seats once set up, are absolutely fabulous.
It even seems to be pretty good on fuel, I just worked out that my first tank I got 24mpg, with varies driving. Which is pretty impressive.
It's luckily in the old tax system so is not stupid money to tax.
Oh and really surprisingly it only cost me an extra £150 to insure than the Alfa, which considering I'm 23 is pretty good to me.
As I'm sure you can tell I'm loving it
Anyway here are some pics:

I spotted that example on auto trader the other week and thought it looked a decent example. Been toying with the idea of a CLK430 to go alongside the diesel for a bit of V8 bliss - and Mercedes know how to do the job properly when it comes to V8s! I know these cars well, there is nothing quite like them. They are heavy on brake discs as you might imagine, and are AMG specific so beware of some looming bills that might just see your arse tanned in the future. Don't let me spoil your fun though!
Is this your daily driver? Keep us updated with this car, I love them.

Well done sir! rather jealous seeing as I am slightly older than you at 24.
Are they really 2 tonnes?!I thought they were just under 1700kgs, I have driven a few of them and if so they hide there weight very well indeed!
As some else said, please keep us updated.
Edit to add: I remember being passenger in one were the carpet was removed from under your feet in the footwell and for one reason or another the noise was massively amplified! sounded gloroise in fact, I did wonder at the time if it would be possible to put sound ports through the carpet similar to what subs use, if you get my drift?

Smart looking car, not many AMG CLKs about in that shape.
It must be quite a big jump from the Alfa to that, but seeing how enthusiastic you are about the performance of an older AMG, I'd love to see your reaction from a newer faster car, a C63 AMG for example.
Congrats though, and don't worry about the money, it's for spending, and life is for enjoying, and buying an AMG V8 was the best decision you could have made. Enjoy it.

Cheers guys, yes I honoustly can't believe how the newer AMG's with almost twice the power, put it Down.
Yes this is my "sensible" daily driver, I also have a R1 engined kit car (7) as a "toy"
Yes I am single and literally all my money goes on cars
This is the 159 I traded in, plus £800. Which wasn't too bad a deal seems it had 108k miles on it;

Lovely cars! However I always think they should have quad exhausts fitted, think it would suit them more.
I agree, dual exhausts on the same side just doesn't look right for an AMG at all, luckily they changed it in later models as the quad exhausts on AMG's look the bees.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
