Autocar didn't like the e92 m3 when it came out for some reason, it's probably the only test result showing the RS4 beating the M3 and therefore proves the rule.

Have you seen where Audi put the engine?

In the front of the RS4 and middle of the R8

Did all the other mags at the time say the E92 M3 was better than RS4 ?

I never understood why some of the early reviews were like this quite mixed. But now the E92 M3 seems to held in good regard.

Well the engine is in the front. What is the point of the question I don't follow ?

Was reading an old article in Car magazine last night against M3, GTR, 911 Turbo, V8 R8 & the Turbo came last then the R8 & the M3 came second & the GTR won which didn't surprise me, but thought the M3 did well to get second place in that group.

Autocar didn't like the M3 much at launch for some reason but most other mags loved it other than slightly lifeless steering & high driving position which autocar concur with.

I remember Chris Harris had bought a new one when he was with Autocar.
Remember him saying he thought the steering wheel was too thick and the driving position was too high.

And the running in instructions might be little more complex than earlier Ms (not sure on this)

I think the E92 definetely grown on me saw a lovely 13 plate today looked stunning

I think its actually further forward than the front, like overhanging the numberplate!

the gearbox is level with the struts!

I have driven both, lots. I bought the M3 - better in every situation

The RS4 does have nice seats, and obviously in bad weather the awd would make you quicker slightly - but there is no competition in enjoyment

I think the RS4 sounds better, maybe not at very high revs but it sounds more purposeful lower down the revs to me, I wouldn't swap my M3 as it ticks every box but I have always lusted after the RS4 maybe because its only one of a handful of decent Audi's.

Same. My all time favourite Audi. Do like the R8, but the B7 RS4 was the first Audi that I properly liked and wanted.

Both can be favourably mentioned in the same sentence, testimony indeed
