'S' values - I'd appreciate some advice
Discussion
Hi all, I'm after some advice please....
I have an "H"-plate TVR S-series which I should sell as it's really not my sort of thing - the only problem is that I haven't a clue how much it'd be worth.
It's an H-plate car in metallic blue, just passed MOT with flying colours and will be taxed from the start of April. Everything works and it is in generally very sound condition, the only thing that lets it down is the finish on the dash wood. I'd have no problem in driving it anywhere.
It comes with a huge file of history, including every MOT from new and photographs of some chassis-off "repainting". It's done less than 7000 miles in the last ten years. ( 76,000 now on the clock )
if it makes any difference, I'll advertise it on PH first and then probably ebay.
thanks in advance

"Not really your sort of thing".... Hmmmm may not get much support here as you obviously have no soul (sorry did I say that out load).
Problem is that these are rare enough not to have a set value. Best to look on pleads etc for similar as prices are in a state of flux and may well be increasing.
Just do your best to pass on the piece oh British motoring heritage to someone who can give it a good home.
Good luck

V6 ford engine i guess?
H-reg: definately pre-cat modell...so not interesting for export
now it depends on the condition...from 500 to 2500 pound i would say.

If it's the condition and spec he says surely anything from 3k to 5k? If you're right, where were all the 2k S-cars when I was looking last year!?

funny you mention export - this car was initially going for export, but now isn't ( long story )
don't get me wrong, I'm very much a car nut, but after a lifetime working in the specialist car industry, this isn't really a thing I'd keep. And as well, I already have two Bentleys, a Lotus Carlton and a Holden GTS, plus a couple of old Land-Rovers and a Vanden Plas to name but a few.
thanks for the help - and keep it coming. Car first reg'd Jan 1991 - 290S.
No cats fitted, well at least not now, as its got a very nice-sounding stainless system on it. It probably had unregulated cats if they were fitted from new, so at least there aren't any lambda sensors that could have gone missing.

It sounds like a well looked after vehicle with good history.
Some pics would help us - but It's got to be £5k minimum. Assuming average to good condition and no major work needed. What's the wooden dash problem ?
its just a finish issue, the lacquer on the wood(ish) panels has started to blister. Some pics would help us - but It's got to be £5k minimum. Assuming average to good condition and no major work needed. What's the wooden dash problem ?
pictures in the next couple of days.

It's ok boys, Herr RochdaleGT ist ein Berliner and was only trying to express what he would be prepared to pay for a relatively unknown ( in Germany ) type of V6 Ford- engined old car.H-reg: definately pre-cat modell...so not interesting for export

It shows how little our S's are appreciated out there in the wider world.
We are the lucky cognocenti who know they are priceless.
Sounds like a nice example if the outriggers are sound.
If the only problem worth a mention is the dashboard, then it must be pretty good condition, with lowish mileage.
All the service history talk of chassis work done, I second the motion of £5k or more dependant on inspection.
Funnily I was just posting to Phillpot about having a vacant garage space.................

well that's a turn-up - selling it now and here was never on the agenda.
I really need to at leaast tax it and use it for a week or two, just to make sure that it hasn't got any problems, I couldn't move it on with any doubts in my mind. It's only done 16 miles in the last two years after all.
by all means e-mail me if you want to start a dialogue.

Visit the TVR parking area at the Nurburgring Oldtimer GP and you'd be amazed at the number of cars from before the Griff / Chim era. S's make up quite a large proportion of the 80 or so cars there which is a refreshing change from normal UK meets where (unless it's a national get together like Chatsworth or an S Club event you're lucky to see more than a couple together. glenrobbo said:

Cats became a requirement throughout the whole of Europe from 1991 (unregulated) and from 1994 ( 3-way )
vehicles manufactureds before this date didn't require cats anywhere, so export of a non-cat car from the UK to another country in Europe will be simple. No cats here - no cats there.
Its a little different in use. In the UK, we have a relatively lax MOT system, which would allow you to remove the cats from a cat-equipped car as long as it still passed the MOT. Other European countries require both more stringent emissions gas tests and for the blanket "original-design" cats to still be present.
hope this helps
