I'm a PHer from across the pond, and for a while now, I've been considering purchasing a used 928. But don't really know what the feasibility of such a purchase might be. Does anyone know what sort of issues I should be made aware of? Which model year is preferable? I just love the idea of V-8 power in a light daily-driveable 2+2 package.

Superb, underrated cars. Auto vs manual is a key choice, the auto is a continent-crushing GT, the manual a gentleman thug. I have a manual myself.
Strap on a blower or drop in some cams, and GT3 pace is easily achievable.

I had an 89 S4 (5 litre 32 valve) for about 5 years. I did test drive a manual S, and auto S2 and several S4s. For me the S4 was better more comfortable, easy choice, especially the auto. Things to look for in all cars is a comprehensive history, with cambelt, rollers, tensioners all changed as per the service schedule. Most will all have high miles on them (mine had 120k when I got mine) but don't let thst out you off.
Also check dampers, as they are heavy cars and will start sitting very low in the wheel arches if they are starting to go.
On the autos, check all the vaccum pipes are in placd otherwise you will get a very jerky gear change.
Check body damage, new panels will cost a fortune. Also check the state of the rad/oil coolers, as they are pricey if they get damaged or corrode.
When driving, turn in should be sharp with a very little roll. The auto should readline in each gear under hard accerleration.
That was the kind of stuff I looked for and mine was a beauty. Good luck.
