Recommneded clay/polish/wax for a red TVR
Discussion
Hi,
First post in Bodywork and Detailing and I am looking for some general advice.
I've just bought a bright red Chimaera (1997), my first fibre glass car and need to give her a good clean.
I'm not into detailing so know NOTHING!!!!
I plan to wash her, then clay her, followed by a polish and wax.
Recommendations as to which clay bar/polish/wax/a n other most welcome.
I'd rather not spend the earth likewise I am quite lazy so hoping I can do all the work in a day or less.
Thanks

Just done a bit of digging and am thinking about this:
AG Surface detailing clay kit
followed by the AG Super resin polish in the above mentioned kit
followed by some AG Extra Gloss protector OR some AG HD wax.
Comments welcome
Well I've gone with the HD wax rather than the Extra Gloss Protector. AG Surface detailing clay kit
followed by the AG Super resin polish in the above mentioned kit
followed by some AG Extra Gloss protector OR some AG HD wax.
Comments welcome
I'm sure it will be fine but any input on what is better will still be appreciated.
Hi,
AG is a good start and your not going to go wrong, with your current setup I started with AG many years ago and am still learning. My advice would be focus on the basics, don't complicate thngs Meguirs is pretty good as well, before you move onto Chemical Guys, Dodo Juice, then up to Race Glaze, Swisswax etc.
Here are a couple of guides. Forget the products mentioned, although it will give you an idea what's out there

I found this particularly useful when I started

It can get more complicated but start simple and move up from there
The key things from my perspective were to invest in the following:
Lambs Wool Mitt
2 x Buckets with Grit Guards
Decent PH Neutral Shampoo
Snow Foam Lance (No need initially)
Clay (this is so easy to do, just keep it clean, keep moulding it clean)
Good Waffle Weave or Fleece Type Drying Tower (Chamois Not Good)
Next Investment for me is a Water Filter
Remember if you wax, apply it twice, but make sure you use a PH neutral p, carnauba enhanced wax shampoo after to maintain it . Couple of times a year clean the wax off and reapply, as it picks up debris. You only need to clay a couple of times a year if your regularly washing and cleaning your car
Start with the basics and move on from there Don't worry about polishing machines etc, that's the next level when you build up your confidence and experience
Hopefully this helps . I'm sure others will offer further advice
