Firstly, I'm sure this has been discussed a million times, but the search function seems to be kaput and I'm off looking at cars this weekend so any help would be great. I'm looking for a daily driver and live in Dubai so the car market is somewhat different. I quite fancy a Cayman as they are pretty good value 2nd hand out here but 95% of them are tiptronic. There are some manuals knocking around, but given the traffic here at times I'd rather not go down that route. A new PDK car will blow the budget. So... whilst a sports car with a slush-box seems like a bit of a crime, it would be great to know what they are really like. I've seen a few videos of them being driven and the 'box seems pretty responsive. Interested in people's experiences of them.

They're not mega-popular over here. I had one as a loaner (in a Boxster, but identical drivetrain), and, to be honest, I didn't gel with it. It just seemed counter-intuitive to me and it never got the gear choice right in full auto, and manual just seemed very remote. PDK in contrast is much better. Personally I'd have a manual all day long, but yes, in traffic, the clutch can get a bit tiring after a long time. It's not that bad mind you... Really it's the same old thing - go and try yourself. It's not for me, and there don't seem to be many Tips on the market over here and those that are devalue quicker than their manual counterparts which, I think, says it all.

The first Cayman I test drove was a tip because that was all the dealer had in stock at the time. I wasn't very impressed and glad I waited to try a manual before commiting.
