Just caught an earful of popular music's R&B crooner Nelly's new ditty called "Hey Porsche".
Sure you've heard and enjoyed (?) but I couldn't help noticing that he pronounces it "Porsha" and, hell, Nelly should know, but I'm not so sure of the correct pronounciation.
I've been wrestling with this one for a while now so somebody please enlighten me.......

Its porsh-a technically, although I dont think anyone would bat an eye at porsh, especially in the uk where ascending accents on words aren't as commonplace as europe.

It's pronunciation.

Say it whichever way you prefer. Germans do pronounce the final e.

I speak German and can't but help pronounce it 'properly'... Which not only means sounding the 'e', but also a slightly different inflection on the 'o'. Which no doubt makes me sound a complete tit to most people.

So I can't spell or speak properly then!
Not only that, but you listen to 'Nelly' - whoever she is.

It's a downward slippery slope for you, young man.

The German pronunciation is 'Porscha', but us Brits are happy with 'Porsh'.

Do we also say 'B M V' for BMW or VolksVagen for VW?

Definitely "Porsch" for me. Never understood why people say "Porsch-a"!

How do you pronounce "Deutsche Bank"?

Well I dont know ! You English ruled us here in Ireland for 800 yrs or so and most of our placenames are an anglo corruption of the gaelic name. Applying this logic the word becomes Porsh when spoken in English and Porscha in German, and best of all is often pronounced Paarsh in Cork and Kerry .

Folksvagen (NOT Voaks or Foaks, rhyming with oaks), or Foul-vee, really.

And no!

A conclusive poll carried out on the subject concluded that the majority pronounce it "Porsh"

Funnily enough, I noticed that on 'Wheeler Dealers', Mike pronounced it 'Porsch-a whereas Edd was 'Porsche'.
