My mate owned this. It looks good BUT the chassis was shot, it rusted on a driveway in Liverpool for so long the rear gave way. This led to the body warping. The rear bearing carriers are gone, and the body so out of shape it wouldnt go on the chassis anyway. The bonnet and doors wont close and the reason why the rear screen is out is it wont ever fit as the body is so bad. The only way is to somehow bend it back but its probably u/s. So the idea of the paintwork being OK is a bit of a farce. There was no engine or gearbox when it was last sold so no doubt some old units will be hawked off with it! A very misleading ad.
And at £9K????????

The only thing is it falsely raises the expectations of sellers so it is a problem for anyone wanting to buy a vixen or similar at a reasonable price. Any thoughts out there?

stick a v8 in it, sort the chassis and interior, call it a Tuscan V8, sell for 40k. Job Jobbed.

( well if everyone else is doing it)

It is an interesting point though, if a body sitting on a chassis which needs repair and has no engine installed is for sale for £9k, then what are the values of average or good cars these days?

I did start a long thread about this a few years back, about who buys Vixens and what do they want. I've always wanted a car and not a jig-saw puzzle to be honest, and would be out of luck these days. hehe

That is just an asking price though, not to be confused with what cars are actually selling for.

The white Tuscan asking price went up from £12 to £18.5k too - should have bought it the day it came up for sale and saved £6.5k!!!. Interesting to see if it sells, it seems a very honest ad unlike the red Vixen!!

What would a restored Tuscan V6 be worth I got offered one that wanted some work on it for 18K, but I thought that was expensive, maybe it wasn't !

Its worth whatever someone is willing to pay,
From my limited experience there is no such thing as paying too much a person pays what they are happy to pay because that's what they want.
Then even if its the top price ever paid for that model often a few years later it seems cheap.

That's the point, it makes the market into an auction with it following and trying to exceed the last highest bidder. Not a good outcome for us - as all it does is encourage hoarding, investment buyers and excludes the true enthusiast. For example the red Vixen will be seen by the market as now being a benchmark for an asking price at £9k when it's an unusable body loose on a dodgy chassis and no main original engine/ gearbox etc etc (yawn)- that makes a running original Vixen now worth £16k min. Presumably the vendor doesn't need to sell or is new to this as if he's a dealer then he should be seriously ashamed.

Yep polish from the Wynns 'Gold Leaf' Range should do the trick.

please do not use the chassis as i welded from front to the rear when i stopped because the tube structure was extremely corroded and totally twisted .

infact all of the suspension and steering chassis connections required replacing as this car had stood for 20 years plus.

i sold it in parts and its worrying to see sold as solid simple project .

i may be wrong and a lot of work may have happened to it , but from the pictures it looks like somebodies reassembled it on to the chassis .

please ensure that the chassis is not used

Just looked at chassie picture , it is as i left it , home made suspension support and no body support bolt holes as the body would not line up with the chassie

Incredible. And the asking price at £9K too. Looks like its a £60 a ton job. There's a warning here to people putting their name and liability at stake hawking off scrap as a viable project. I heard its half hidden under debris in what looks like a breakers yard, so hopefully heightswitch didn't waste his time viewing. I looked at the white Tuscan - what a car!!! - an honest original unrestored beauty !!

Cars are worth what someone is willing to pay for them..

I used to buy vixens when a basket case could be had for £1000. I seldom look at basket case vixens anymore....especially not at 9k.

The car ultimately is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it...unfortunately someone will buy it most likely a trader to add on a couple more thousand!!

The last vixen I bought was £450...

If someone fancies a resto project....

This is it now after attention from a very good engineer and vixen restorer!!!

Quite honestly I never understand whay anyone would want to try to fix a 40 year old chassis when it is such a low cost but fundamental bit of the car!!! The next most valuable bit being the log book of course!!!

That chassis looks superb. Welding bits of grass together isn't an easy job let alone getting the paint to stick.

I spoke to him last year about this one, he's a dealer and its a strictly no offers deal - walked awaybyebye
