I know I've seen this before, but please remind me. It believe I need to lubricate the lock mechanism, without affecting the electrical switch.

I have read that WD-40 works well for a few days then clogs the switch.

I have heard of Vaseline being used.

I have tried silicone spray, but this seemed to make things worse.

What is the current thinking?

Hi Wilf...If you are talking about where the key goes in then it was recommended to me to use some graphite powder.I did and afterwards the action was a lot smoother..Which reminds me..Might be time to do it again...There is also a lubricant version that dries inside the lock..Ideally you dont want to use anything else prior to this...Cheers...Ziga

And that doesn't give me black pockets?

I can't remember the name for sure, but I have used a 'dry' lubricant on locks before, which seems to work fairly well - I think it was called "DryGlide" or something like that. Comes in a can just like WD40...

I remember firing some black graphite into a front door lock whilst the customer was stood the other side in his suit ready to go out,he flinched back like he'd been shot! I did giggle like a girl.

Thanks, everybody.

I did not like the idea of graphite (which conducts electricity) in an electric switch. I guess you are saying that is not a problem.

People will no doubt scoff. A standard HB pencil, up and down several times on both sides of the key works a treat. Much less messy than the graphite powder and doesn't make a mess of pockets.
