Av receiver trouble shooting - help how to get sound?!
Discussion
Right just picked up Yamaha amp rx 573 model and trying to install.
I have all the hdmi stuff hooked up and picture is displaying fine, I have linked hdmi cable from tv to av receiver and then my blu ray Xbox and sky all linked directly to av receiver via hdmi cables.
Picture is coming out fine on all sources however I can't get sound, am I missing something/ any more cables I should have hooked up that I haven't to get the sound out?

Maybe your Sky box is (correctly) set to output sound via it's optical output? This is the only way to get 5.1 signal from your Sky box to an amp since if you use HDMI then you only get stereo. Or perhaps you amp is set to use the HDMI input for video and something else for the sound input.
If you don't have an optical lead (any cheap one from Amazon will do BTW) then make sure that the Sky box is set to send audio via HDMI for now and make sure that the amp is set to use the HDMI input for the sound from the Sky box (ie video and audio inputs are 'matched').
Once you get an optical lead you will need to change the Sky box output to optical and the amp to use HDMI for the video and the optical for audio on whichever input you use for the Sky box.
Hope this makes sense?

I have tried optical and coxial and changed settings about cant seem to get sound! Probably something glaringly obvious but can't seem to get it working at the moment!

I don't know much about Sky boxes, but I didn't think they had a coax output? I saw you had similar replies over on AVF so still no joy.
Have you checked the audio output setting for the Sky box yet?
Cracked it was a duff setting on the receiver must have to it that when I was messing about with then just reset it back to a different setting all sorted thanks for your help!!
