Has anyone ever come across a V6 powered Fisher Fury? Thinking about getting a boggo Fury, ditching the power plant in exchange for a 300 ZX engine. It'll be normally aspirated version. How easy is it to fit an engine like this with the matching gear box and LSD? Any major pitfalls?

Nearly a ten-year lurk and your first post is this? Did they treat you nicely, you know, inside?

There are rover v8 ones around.

Crazy.

Awesome.

Surely there are much easier options than sticking a 20 year old Nissan V6 into a little kit like a Fury.

I'm currently rebuilding my fury with a v6.

It's the kl engine from mx6 / ford probe.

Do a search for clairetoo on locostbuilders she pioneered the swap.

And that's coming from someone with a 3 series shed and a volvo 480 on the drive. Hold me back, the excitement is too much for me. Now, if you don't, mind I'll speak to someone who's not still living with his parents.

A Mazda V6 eh? I've seen the footage on youtube of that Fury being started up for the first time with a V6 from a Mazda 6 in it. Sounds superb. Okay, so its going to be a little heavy but a decent V6 is a lot stronger than a 4 pot and has a lot more scope for development. Once you get to 250 hp with a 4 pot it'll be a bit of a nightmare to drive and to live with. How have you found putting your V6 in? Any major incidents that you didn't account for?

The NA 300zx is a good choice, cheap and reliable, but the fact that probably no one has done it before will in all likelihood mean extra expense?

As I recall, those KLZE engines are rather light aren't they? Sounds a good project to me

The VG30DE is an iron block DOHC 45 degree V6, so it's likely very large and very heavy. Probably not what you want in a lightweight kit car.

Cheers Vince, at least it has an engine, eh? I wonder why DickHarvey hasn't filled his garage in?

The kl engines are all alloy and are pretty compact. I think there was only about 20kg difference between the rover k series + type 9 I've just pulled compared to the kl and mx5 box going in.

I'm still early days yet, at the moment the engine is in a million pieces about to be rebuilt next weekend.

It's certainly not as easy as some of the off the shelf engine packages but once finished with megasquirt and ITBs I kn ow that Claire had hers rolling roared at 208bhp home tuned.

When it's all a bit more than a pile of bits I'll post a few pictures.

Shut up mate, you've offered nothing to the thread, now go away.

Sounds like a good project, I imagine most of the money will be in fabricating brackets and mounts. If you are friendly with an engineer or have access to a cnc machine it should be ok.

Rover KV6 can be mated to a Type 9 and is one of the lightest/most compact production V6s made.

The Vauxhall 2.5-3.2 V6 is nice and narrow, ideal for a little engine bay. 3.2 makes 220bhp before you tweak it with other vauxhall v6 bits. Also comes in an Omega which has a half decent gearbox too.

Personally, I'd go for a more modern Nissan V6, the VQ35DE.

I had my 300ZX TT upto 440hp/420ft/lb courtesy of SE Nissan in Malden. It used to propel the behemoth of a car as if it were fibreglass.

I would imagine that putting that in a Fury would provide more than adequate performance! Is the chassis capable?

The 300 ZX is a complicated engine and also has the longest cam belt in the world IRC. The downsides would be that there are less skilled people about for that engine than say a Vauxhall/Ford engine etc. If you are set on putting that in, for the work required I would also find the room for the twin turbo's. There was no noticeable lag from my TT and that engine pulls like a train from 2.5k right up to 6.5k.

Great engineering challenge - good luck with it thumbup

Thanks for the useful threads guys. I used to have a 300 ZX NA you see and the engine was so smooth in its power deliver. I always said that that engine would be a peach if it was in something lighter. My main aim is to hill climb in it and the sound of a throttle bodied V6 with that sort of power delivery would be more than enough. It's now dawning on me the different types of V6's that are out there. So what would be the lightest and could be pushed to its limits the most do you think? It's Mazda 6 option could be interesting.
