Hi
We are desperate to get 2 /3 new cats. Last year we lost our remaining 4 due to old age related illnesses. Had since kittens but one by one they sadly went. We made a decision not to introduce new blood with ancient cats and wait until the last passed on.
Trying to get new ones is a nightmare. We have tried all the rescue places and although on home checks they say we are perfect, the fact we live on a fairly busy road they say No.
Preferably we would like greys or gingers but open to basically anything.

We chose 3 last week but the owner says no as they are Italian and not used to traffic.

It's ridiculous, we have had cats for 30 years, all rescue and loved.

We know cats inside out and just want to give some a loving home.

Any ideas how we can achieve this without ridiculous bureocrasy (sp)

Wow, really? Local shelters around here are desperate to rehome cats and dogs so i don't see how a bit of a busy road would be such an issue for your shelters. If it's a motorway or something fair enough but otherwise? seems a bit harsh that people who generally want to give a mistreated cat a loving home aren't allowed to.

Crazy isn't it. I know charities want to keep their rehomes safe but all the while they are looking at something that may never happen, they are preventing a) a cat having a loving home and b) that cat taking up cattery space for another homeless cat.

Have you tried lying and say they will be indoor cats? Would you be prepared to invest in an outdoor run for the cats to appease the charities (don't see why you should but it's just an idea)

I live Bristol way, try finding a quiet road here!!

We do have a local charity that seems to be a bit more sensible about such things.

Wish I could offer more tips

Trust that your cats were not run over? If not then there will be a local rescue place who will let you take them.

We had a home visit today. They didn't even look at the house ( 5 bed semi, 100ft garden backing onto 100ft garden) only interested in road which is a normal suburban road. The visitor who was early 20's trying to lecture me who has had dozens of cats over 35 years about the risks. Pissed off as bought food and toys for the Italian ones we had reserved.

Have to keep looking I guess.

Do any of the local vets have some to move on? I know our vet always has posters up of cats they have patched up after someone took them in broken and lost. Just wondering if a business might take a more practical view of your situation.

You will find a more sensible place. Our local one is both reasonable and practical. They are out there.

Last people to home check us sat her fat a**e down and the only reason our cat at the time survived was because she moved fast....... You would have thought a cat person would check a seat before parking....

Other thing to do is put up on facebook in your local pet area page...

Ok, let's do it a bit more 'PH'y. When beauraucracy gets in the way, be inventive about the truth.

Get a mate who lives on a (very) quiet road to have a home visit from PITA organisation. Mate receives cats. You pop round after cats have been acquired by mate and give them the loving home they need as your mate unfortunately has made a big mistake and is actually allergic to cat fur.

Hi there, I may be able to help with this one - I don't want to put the details up publically so I'll send you a PM.

PM sent - let me know if nothing comes through as I know the PM system can be a little unreliable.

Pity that you're so far away from my workplace.

We've got loads here which we're just getting neutered and then looking to re-home.

An industrial estate is not a safe place for them
