Hi Guys

Like all my previous cars, I have always had an urge to modify/upgrade it in some way so as to put my own stamp on it.

Thus on to my recently acquired 4.3 vantage coupe.

Having searched through numerous threads I have come to understand that Bamford Rose are a very highly regarded and professional outfit, and if
I intend to upgrade my V8 vantage's power, then they are the only way to go.

Thus I was hoping my fellow Aston PH'rs would be kind enough to help me with a few questions?

1) Having gone with the sport exhaust upgrade, how has this improved the performance (& noise) of the car? I have read some people posting reviews a few days after they got their car back, but would be even better to hear from people who have had the upgrade for a while now (which I think there are loads)

2) Is it worth £4,200+VAT for essentially 40 bhps increase. Is the feel of the car transformed enough to a level where you think the cost was worth it?

3) What have people done when they sold their cars? Did they swap the old exhaust back on? Does your outlay on the sport exhaust become a sunk cost
in that situation?

I have modified the way I drive to get the most out of my new vantage with high revving and plenty of gearshifts so dont get me wrong, I am not
disappointed with the car, but would be nice to improve throttle response/standing acceleration just a tad.

By the way, I dont intend to upgrade to a 4.7/ V12 or turn my car into a Jessica!!! Dont wish to spend that kind of cash, but £4,200+VAT, is still alot of money
thus would be interested to hear people's opinions on this topic. Are their people who regretted the upgrade? would like to hear from you too.

Anyway, thanks in advance and I look forward to your responses.

Get in touch with Little Donkey.

He recently took a BR exhaust off his V8V when he upgraded to a V12V. If it's still available, that might save you a few pennies.

I think that's on it's way to a racing car... But you can ask! It's back at BR anyway.

As to your questions, I could answer for a DB9 (a colossal and emphatic YES) but answers from 4.3 owners would be better for you yes

Tried that! Sadly Mike has other plans for Greg's exhaust frown

Aha. Fair enough.

But I'm sure that LD/Greg will be on in a bit to tell you about the transformation that the BR exhaust made to his 4.3. I'm also guessing that he will tell you that it is worth every penny. cool

O.K.......in your order:-

1. It's a different car with the B.R system. The car will willingly fly up to the rev limiter and the extra power and torque are very evident. The stock 4.3 always felt like it was just a bit, I dunno.......asthmatic. And it always needed a heavy boot to get the best out of it. With the B.R system the car feels much freer revving, even slow maneuvering is easier when say, reversing on full lock and the extra torque definitely makes slow speed gear changes much smoother, not to mention improved fuel economy. Mine always showed average mpg 17.3 but that improved to 20.5.

Oh, and if you went the B.R route, then you definitely wouldn't need to modify the way you drive.........well, that's a lie, you would..........you'd need to slow down because it gets a bit intoxicating.

2. Yes and Yes

3. Now this is the interesting bit. Having the system did not appear to have any detrimental effect to the value of the car. In fact, I was close to negotiating a premium. It was only due to the cicumstances that my car was returned to stock, but im sure that had the dealer stuck with it, the first punter to have a go, would have bought it. Now dont ask me to get into the murky world of warranties and we all know that B.R are not authorised by A.M but that doesn't stop intrigue. B.R remind me of the banned record that everyone wants to hear. And remember what happened to Relax in the eighties? It went straight to number one. Once B.R get recognition beyond our little forum and the dealers just take that initial leap of faith, I'm sure that having one of their systems on a trade in will mean that those cars will be the unofficial number 1 best sellers on the used market.

Go with it, you won't be disappointed.

Yep, had the exhaust upgrade since last summer. Complete transformation to how the car drives. The BR exhaust manifold is a work of art; the OEM part in comparison is a heavy, clumsily engineered piece of sh*t.

I'm sure a few more will be along soon. As of today there's 29 upgraded V8's and 8 V12's knocking about the place. By my maths, that's 1,698 liberated horses running wild.

and how about the following comparison:

4.3+B.R. exhaust vs 4.7 stock

Does the 4.3+B.R. get close?

Is the difference still night and day?

Ah. Now you've got me. Never driven a 4.7 as I went straight to V12 lick but take a look at Mike's most recent post in the Bamford Rose area - that just may make your mind up.

Realistically the only people who have driven that spec are the BR guys themselves; as I don't know anyone who has gone from a BR 4.3 to a bog standard 4.7. I suppose a few might have done test drives..?

As I understand it, on paper they are very similar in both power and torque after the mods, however the BR car revs much more freely as it breathes so much easier... and also sounds far better wink

Is the difference night and day in outright performance... No, more like 1pm and 1:15pm smile

I have gone from stock 4.7 to BR 4.7 with their cats, exhaust and induction system plus switchable dampers and the transformation is impressive. By my guestimation of the improvement the BR cats, exhaust and induction system will get you to a very similar place in terms of power to a factory 4.7 but it will also breathe more freely so be more eager to rev than a factory 4.7.

Having gone through the upgrade route on my 4.3 and tried the Aston sports exhaust and the quicksilver, together with the N400 upgrade- yes it made a difference in noise and a slight improvement over stock performance- one get a little more top end.

When it comes to selling it, forget about recouping any of the costs, might even be detrimental to the sale.

In hindsight, it would never pay that sort of money again to 'upgrade the car' I would save and buy the 4.7 or the s version every time.

What you did was nothing like what the OP is asking. You put a big empty box on the back (Quiksilver) and wasted your money on the Aston snake oil system for 10bhp. Nothing like the well-engineered and proven kit on sale now.

Bad luck and all that, but when will you let it drop..?
