Any ideas on removing this greasy mess would be appreciated!

It does not come off with water/car shampoo

If you run a finger through it, it does come off revealing the paint underneath.

The car is my wife's Focus so we are not to precious about it but any recommendations gratefully received,

Thanks,

Jim

Maybe a very mild abrasive like scratch repair solutions careful applied would do it. Ive had a lot of success with detailing clay with a similar scenario, lots of lube/detailing spray needed.

Try baby wipes, they're pretty good for shifting greasy stuff off of just about anything.

baby wipes would be ideal , or go and buy some bug remover or detail spray and wipe over with a microfibre towel.

I had similar on the boot of my MX5, I tried detail spray and a microfibre - which didn't work. In the end claying (then re waxing) worked.

I tried to remove some similar marks from a friend's silver Mondeo - thought claying would do the trick but it didn't. Then tried some Gtechniq P1 (by hand) but again failed. Finally tried some Bilt Hamber Auto Balm which removed them.
