...seems to be becoming less "conspiracy" and more "truth". Or maybe such conspiracies are just signing up more believers?

Firebox used to sell the miracle fruit, it sounded intriguing. There might have been a bit of an attempt by the sugar lobby to quash popular use decades ago. After seeing how the sugar industry and the food companies in general behave, I can well believe it.

Third world countries? Like, er..Brazil, China, Australia, Mexico etc... .there's no conspiracy, people have a sweet tooth so sugar's a popular commodity and has been for hundreds of years.

True. But some stuff does taste of stuff it's supposed to taste of. Take Tesco horse beef lasagne... it tastes like beef lasagne.

OTOH thank the Lord that banana sweets don't taste like banana but something divine.

Not all sugars but yes fructose is particularly nasty when consumed in excess. High-fructose corn syrup is something we should all avoid.

Anything high in fructose - sugar (sucrose) isn't any better for you than HFCS really. Lustig himself says it's basically the same in terms of health effects.
