Sorry, I am sure I could search the many discussions on tyre choices but I figured if I explained my basic intentions, i might get direct answers without having to read between the lines.
I have a Chimaera. In Jan 2005 (unless they die before the service), I will require new tyres all round. I don't use the car for track days and don't have millions of pounds, i simply have a car I am completely in love with and want to keeplife nice and simple. Can you suggest a sensible set of tyres that are good all rounders and won't destroy my bank balance. Thanks in advance.

I got a set of SO3s from Black Circles - use the PH tyre finder. Resonable price, delivered locally and fitted, good wear rate, no problems.

Thanks, I have never had to buy new tryres before, what size, width etc etc does one usually get or is it not as simple as that. Sorry to sound quite so thick.

Word of warning... whilst some people love SO3s, other people think they're garbage. Don't think views on the Toyos are this polarised by quite some way.
As for tyre sizes... just check what you've got on your current ones (it'll say around the side wall in rubber). 225x45xZR16 or something similar. First number is width (mm), second profile (mm), 3rd wheel size (in inches). Letters inbetween are speed rating. "Z" rating is what you really want, "Y"'s probably fine, though.
Don't know what's recommended re. upgrading them (width size, etc.) on Chims... best you ask someone else/your dealer on that one...

IMHO a Y will be fine. 205/55/15 front with 225/45/16 on the rear.
I would suggest Toyo's as well, but from www.mytyres.co.uk - they are a lot cheaper than black circles.
I am on my second set of Goodyear F1's. Well under 400 quid from etyres fitted, balanced etc. They come out to you with all the gear in their van. Have had great service from both etyres and the Goodyears!
There seems to be threads on SO3's and on Toyos, some people liking them and some not, but everyone who has Goodyears just like them!

I've got Goodyear F1s on the rear at the moment. Will be switching back to Toyos or trying Pirelli P-Zero Neros next time round.
As for balancing, if you've never had any steering column judder before, someone like etyres may be fine. Be aware that they can only do so much when it comes to balancing with a mobile van (no multi-speed balancing, etc)
Ok dont laugh but two months i required new SO3's so did the rounds to find the best price, i noticed Kwit Fit and Formula 1 offering a price match deal, I played them against each other and got my SO3's for £332 inc fitting, valves, VAT and shiny chrome dust caps. I also made sure i stood very close while they were handling my wheels and slipped a fiver to the young lad prior to fitting. I could'nt even get the tyres sent to me for this price from any of the online places. Good luck
